Ok recently everyone pointed out that cutting out resistance training and eating less than 2000 calories was not the best way to go around fat loss. Is this because:

You told me to eat more (starting today around 3000 calories)

A) If you have excess calories and you don't do resistance training your body converts the excess energy to fat.

B) If you have excess calories and you do resistance training your body uses the excess energy to build/repair your muscles.

I think these statements are correct? or have I just lost the plot? lol!

If you do not feed yourself enough, your metabolism will slow down, making your fat burning process less efficient. It could also drain your energy and make you tired or grumpy.

If you don't strength train, you will lose muscle mass at the same time that you lose fat mass, and you'll end up a smaller version of your flabby self. :(

Not to take this discussion off course, but I can never understand how people's significant others can be against them getting in shape. I don't know the degree to which she is against it, but if it's more than her jokingly saying so and causes actual fights, she just may not be the one. You need to be with someone who will always support you no matter what, especially when it's something that will improve your health.

That said, regardless of the above issue, you're only 20... RUN!

That pretty much explains why she doesn't want you to get in shape.

My husband was much more content when I was overweight, because I was much more likely to overlook all the beer he was drinking and chips he was eating, and lack of exercise he was getting.

She was happy how you were, and she's happy how she is. Especially if you're making more than just a gradual changes, I'm not surprised that she's uncomfortable about your different habits. You're not as similar anymore.

While I do not expect you to take the words of a random person over the internet seriously, I can promise you judging by this post and your last one alone, neither of you are mature enough to be married.

Just my unprofessional opinion.

I'll just keep doing what I'm doing, end of the day we can both be very mature...me not so much, but I can be, and we both want the same things, Even if we're complete opposites as far as having something in common goes. We just enjoy spending time together doing anything and nothing.

and at the end of the day if she dumps me then..well.....I always got you guys (i'm sure someone here would cheer me up on those blue days) and my goal to get in shape :)...or just concentrate on my career..for-which I will be making a post now...

Sounds like trust issues.

I know how this one goes. I am only 21 and was engaged to a girl who liked me for "who I am" and didn't really care to see me get in shape. I'm way over weight, too. I don't think it was trust so much as insecurity and craziness on her part, but it ended a couple months ago.

Good luck getting there.

Now you are taking in 3000 calories, right?, I would think that is nearer your maintenance level rather than cutting. have you measured your BMR?

CherryPowered

It could be my maintenance but thats what I was aiming for after months of under-eating.

I don't use BMR to calculate my calorific needs, I've been using the Katch-McArdle formula (from Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle by Tom Venuto) which works on lean body mass.

EG (from the book

Weight: 172lbs (78kg)
BF%: 14% (24.1lb fat, 147.9lb lean)

convert lean to kg, ie 67.2
BMR = 370 + (21.6 x 67.2) = 1821 calories, multiply by your activity factor to get your TDEE

I was going to eat at maintenance for 2-3 weeks and then drop it down to see if it works :P

Although I'm still not entirely sure about what I should set my activity factor for.
