We refer to bodyfat as the percentage of your total weight that is made up by fat. e.g.

Bodyweight: 200 lbs
Bodyfat: 10%
Amount of weight in fat: 200 x .1 = 20 lbs
Amount of weight in lean mass: 200 - 20 = 180 lbs

There are a lot of ways to measure your bodyfat percentage: Visual estimate (progress photos), skinfold measurement with calipers, tape measurement, bodyfat scales, hydrostatic measure, etc.

Cutting refers to the practice of reducing your bodyfat % while preserving or increasing lean mass.

Gravityhomer created an extensive glossary of the terms used here. Check it out in the stickies (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=22700).

Good luck! :tu:
