Hey guys I have been stuck on a plateau for a few months now bulking after having great results in the fall. So I've decided to add some calories to my diet. I was looking for a good protein/calorie source that I can have as a snack that is non-dairy and non-meat (already get enough of that stuff) so I decided on beans. The possible issue is I am really looking for calories and 1 serving of these beans (1/4 cup) is only 110 calories so I was thinking of eating 4 servings (1 cup) which would be 32g protein and about 80g carbs. Is this too much? I look forward to your comments and any other good protein sources you might recommend!

I'm not familiar with the amino acid profile of beans, but have heard many times that they are a great food. How about mixing 1/2 cup with another protein source? Also, as usual, results are going to depend on the rest of your nutritional plan.

I've been eating beans with corn or beans with chicken-sausage. Good stuff.

Are you bulking or cutting?

Beans aren't calorically dense...have you thought about nuts?

1 C of DRIED beans is 2 1/2 C cooked beans. That's going to be pretty hard to swallow.

Nuts are good, but have a lot of fat. Then again, beans have a lot of carbs. Protein powder and/or egg whites would be your most easily digestible way to add calories from protein. I also like dry roasted soy beans (http://www.truestarhealth.com/Notes/1943009.html). I buy the sour cream and onion flavor, or maple. :eat:

Soy nuts are a snack item. Because of their crunchy texture and nutty flavor, they also make an interesting addition to salads and grain dishes.
