I'm looking for help on exercises for my back day.

i can do about 7 chin ups, about 4 pull ups.

that's max.

pitiful, i know. but alot of people can't even do that many.. these things are freaking hard!

I want to be able to do 25. this will take extreme training.

little by little i will get there.

just wondering what exercises you guys have done, set reps, etc etc, in order to truly get results.

I thought this (http://www.menshealth.com/cda/article.do?site=MensHealth&channel=fitness&category=muscle.building&conitem=15625fb666e69010VgnVCM100000cfe793cd____) was a pretty good article on pullup/chinup progression.

I'm currently doing max effort weighted pullups to try to get me out of a slump on my pullup/chinup numbers.

Do more sets. If you can do 4 reps, then do 6 or so sets.
Once you do them enough, you'll advance up in reps. Other work like rowing and pulldowns can help you.

I hope you aren't doing pullups with your hands on the widest part of the bar. I do mine about 4 inches out from shoulder-width. You get just a good a workout without endangering your RC.

is there really much of a difference between the two? i've always been able to do about the same chinups/pullups (if not more pull ups than chin ups).

i hit 25 *pull ups* in highschool, i can only do about 10 right now since i'm so out of shape. when i started in hs i could only do about 15, but i did them every other day (thats when gym class was scheduled) and basically every day i was able to add 1 more pull up to my max with the 1 day break in between. i wasn't doing sets, but after a couple of months i got to 25, i was extremely happy with myself. but then i stopped doing them.... i never bothered to do the same with chin ups, i always just assumed that they kept up with my pull ups.

I wouldn't say extreme training...right after high school I think I started at 7 pull, 7 chin, 7 mixed...and doing this twice a week, about 3 months in I was doing about 20 chin-ups, 15 pull-ups, and about 18 mixed...

Just do them, alot. Doesn't have to be extreme. :)
