Hello everybody, I've asked this question at other forums and never got a straight forward answer so I wondered if you could help me. What I would like to know are the ideal set/rep schemes and weight in terms of 1RM to develop limit, starting and explosive strength. I appreciate that you can only give guidelines as everything depends on the individual etc. but that will still be useful. Below is the information I've been able to obtain so far but I would be grateful to read your corrections/additions. Thanks in advance everybody.

Limit strength - 80-90% 1RM
1-4 reps
6-10 sets

Starting strength - 50-70% 1RM

Explosive strength - 70-80% 1RM

Very, very roughly:

Limit Strength: 80-100%
Explosive Strength: 60-90% with a maximally accelerated concentric; band work; plyometrics
Starting Strength: training limit and explosive strength with movements that start "dead" (e.g. without utilizing the stretch reflex)

Think Prilepin: http://www.angelfire.com/pe/txpls/prilephin.html

Cool, thanks.

What about sets/reps?

Check out the prilepin table if you're wanting a set/rep suggestion. Some people adhere to it, others don't.
Frankly, I think that the different strengths vary largely by person. Some people don't get great training from certain rep/set/weight divisions. The most important thing you need to learn for progression is what you respond to. You won't find a magic bullet set/rep/weight layout to work on a specific strength. There isn't one. There are only general guidelines such as the ones that Chic laid out.

If you haven't already, go check out what the Westside lifters do. They train for different strengths, but once again, the emphasis they put on it is that it's only a guideline and each lifter is different.

Use the Prilepin table.

If you want hypertrophy, go by something like this: http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do?article=05-091-training
