I'm wondering if John used a Tanita scale when he recorded his bodyfat% each day? If so, when did he switch to calipers?
This may have been asked before but i couldn't find it.

A lot of people say the scales are high and mine reads 16% currently but compared to other pictures I've seen I think I look more like 14%, maybe even 13. I can feel my abs but just can't quite see them yet no matter what I do.

John kicked my a$$ on the fatloss because we are about the same age, same height and I weigh 168lbs (showing 16% on Tanita scale) while his readings show 12% at that weight. Ouch !!

Unless my scale is high and I am really 13-14% and his numbers are not high, hence my question in the beginning.

Yeah I understand Tanita comes out high usually...my Tanita reading this morning was 24.8%, and on mybodycomp.com it comes out at around 18%. My mirror puts me closer to 18% than 25%. I don't use calipers yet - I'll probably get some when I get closer to your numbers and precision is more important. Right now I just keep my eye on the trendline of the Tanita results, measuring at the same time every day.

I seem to remember that John used several methods and averaged the results (an online method, calipers and scale?) but not sure. You might want to look in the FAQs or the short bio section on the main site.

Fit360 is right. John used a bioimpedence scale, body fat calipers, and an online bf site, added them up and divided by 3 to get his daily body fat measurements. He did say that the scale became progressively worse with measurements as his bf decreased. He does not use the scale anymore, and has become quite good at using the calipers. Unless you have a high-end Tanita scale that you can set in "Athlete" mode, your bf readings are most likely too high. When I had my bf professionally measured, it was 7% lower than my Tanita was reading.
