View Full Version : adding a 4th set
beginner84 Tue, February 27th, 2007, 07:11 AM hey !
so currently i am doing 3 sets with 8 reps per exercise.
however i feel confident that if i add a 4th set ill still be able to hit it for a couple of
repetitions still and power out myself even more.
of corse i would stop if i get sloppy or realise that i cannot properly do the exercise anymore.
i just wanted to ask if that ok before i start doing this.
thx
Foley Tue, February 27th, 2007, 07:29 AM If you can do 3x8 without feeling any weakness or tiredness, then increase the weight :)
beginner84 Tue, February 27th, 2007, 07:36 AM no, that is not the case - the last rep on the 3x8 is very hard work.
its about the couple more reps i could squeeze out adding another set that i am asking about.
also i should add that its always 3 full rest days before i do the same exercise again.
i guess its go for the 4th set eh ?
Foley Tue, February 27th, 2007, 07:39 AM Well if you find the last rep(s) hard, then that is good. But once you can do 3x8 in good form, then up the weight by 5-10%.
Or change your set rep scheme to 4x6, 5x5, 6x4, 8x3 etc
Or you could decrease rest times :)

thx man but i know all of that, it is SPECIFICALLY about the couple more reps
i can squeeze out on the 4th set i am asking about.
i dont care if i just manage to do 2 or 3 reps, i just wanna know if that is ok
or if i shouldnt do that at all.
Foley Tue, February 27th, 2007, 07:47 AM I would just stop at 3 sets.
And then as I said, increase the weight when you can do 8/8/8.
Up to you though.

Don't hate me Foley.
I see nothing wrong with you adding a fourth set. I subscribe to the less is more for my own purposes but if you feel good and are happy or happier with your progress while adding the fourth set than go for it.
