I was wondering what everyone thought of the V-Diet its basic formula is:

(Body Weight x 10.2 +879)x .5 for non-Lifting days

(Body Weight x 10.2 +879)x .6 for Lifting Days

I know it says your only drinking protein shakes and mostly fish oil. But I was thinking about modifying it so you can eat whole food (Chicken Breast, Peanut Butter, etc. But my question is would the low calories eat up muscle along with fat? I mean even if you keep protein high? Any thoughts?

I was reading about this diet just yesterday. It seems like a clever way to substitute in a VLCD and yet not call it a VLCD.

This is where I was reading about it at. Several guys there are trying it or have tried it. http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2130568

Everything about it sounds ridiculous to me, from the overly elaborate formula for calculating calories to the fact that it limits you to pretty much just liquid. The formula results in a caloric intake that is far too low, and if you "modify" it and eat chicken breasts and peanut butter, you're essentially just going on a low/very low calorie diet that doesn't really have any connection with the V-Diet anymore. :p

Man, it really isn't that difficult to just do things in a healthy, controlled way. There is absolutely NO NEED to go on an extreme diet like that.

V-diet is just one of many ways to accomplish a task... If you remain true to the principles, you will see rapid fat loss with no requisite loss in strength/muscle... My strength actually went up in all of my lifts with the exception of deads..

If you're already thinking about substituting different stuff, I wouldn't do the V-diet.. With calories that low, you're going to have to make every calorie count by aptly timing your nutrition and using a high quality protein blend, high quality fats, and proper PWN. Go with a more traditional approach unless you're already 100% deadset on the idea..
