Over the past week or so I have started to experience pain in both my wrists, in and around the back of the hand, just where the radius and ulna meet the many muscles of the hand.

It's not a sharp pain as such, but rather a nagging pain that increases dramatically as I flex, extend and rotate the wrist through its full ROM. I have used my better judgment for today and called off my weight training, but I'm just curious as to everyones thoughts on the injury, and if anyone else has experienced wrist pain?

If so, what caused it? What was it? How did you treat it?

I'm just a little confused as I can't think of a particular incident in which It might have occurred.

I have pain in my right wrist mostly (rarely left). It's right where the ulna meets the hand bones. I think the incident for me was when I was doing standing dumbell shoulder presses with heavy weights and then when i "dropped" it down on to the rack, it sprained my right wrist because the "drop" was uncontrolled.....man, i couldn't even do curls, and most of my other lifts, including bench, dips, upright rows (in fact, i still can't do these without causing some discomfort).

I basically rested it for couple weeks and then slowly eased into exercises that didn't cause me pain. Plus, i bought some ZRV? wrist wraps to give me some support when I did shoulder presses or other exercises that put a lot of strain on my wrist. There was an interesting article in T-nation by I think Eric Cressey? about it.

Your pain sound like you either have pain in the actual hand bones themselves (in which case in may be a contusion of the muscle, small fracture, or inflammation of the tendon that crosses this area). I say take some ibuprofen (400 or 600mg every 4 hours as needed), rest, ice, etc... if it doesn't get better, i suggest going to see a doc.

To prevent from getting injured again, I use extremely "controlled" motion to put weights back down and always think twice about lifting "really" heavy. And, I also wear wrist wraps now and then. And, if any exercise causes even some discomfort in my right wrist, I don't do that exercise again for several weeks, and then i'll try again.

Good luck!

It could be a slight case of tendonitis. I have tendonitis in my left wrist the only thing I can do for it is have surgery or take Advil (Ibuprofen) so I take Advil. It's a reocuring thing that will never go away it mostly bothers me when it's cold or rainy or if I do anything where my wrist is "bent" and I put force on it i.e. pushups. If I do pushups I have to do them on my fists or gripping DB's that are on the floor.
