soon I will begin to get into the routine of running, but I don't want to cut, so how would running about 3 miles a day help the body in appearance if I am eating to maintain? I am also weight lifting at the same time.

It will increase your metabolism, which will make you look more vibrant and alert (which will be true, too). If you are eating at maintenance, though, the main benefit will be cardiovascular, I think. Your heart will be stronger. It will help reduce the risk of heart disease, lowered cholesterol, etc. There are also numerous neurological/psychological benefits with the increased level of endorphins. Some would suggest (myself included) that there is spiritual benefit to long runs (bike rides, etc.) too.
