1/2 cup of Low fat cottage cheese, a medium banana and two packets splenda taste like HEAVEN and I'm thinking about having it for breakfast instead of Kashi and low fat milk every day. Should I eat it for breakfast or is it more of a snack? I was having it as my late night dessert before. THANKS!!

actually not to bad of a combo.

banana's have a moderate gi, in the morning that is fairly reasonable.

personally i wouldnt consume it because im silly and go balls out hardcore :(

i would suggest consuming this early in the day, perferable breakfast. bananas, since they have a higher gi.. consuming them later on the day isnt that great for fat loss goals. breakfast is perfect though.

first thing in the morning, your body is most adapt with dealing with glucose and carbs

if you eat a low GI breakfast, say oatmeal?

you will then lower the GI of all the other meals you eat during the rest of the day, making everything healthier

if you eat a banana you won't get that effect

IMO there is nothing wrong with Bananas.

As Jono said their GI rating is ok (not great but not bad either), they are high in fibre and are packed with vitamins and other essential nutrients. I have one with breakky and it gives me a good boost.

I eat a banana with my oats at breakfast simply to wake me up. Being a college student, and all too often only getting 4-5 hours of sleep, I sometimes need that moderate GI boost in the morning. I like to cut up half the banana and put it in the oatmeal with about 30 seconds left in the microwave. I then eat the other half of the banana my commute to campus.

This thread reminded me of this article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/2664373.stm) I saw a while back about how bananas could be disappearing within a decade, and the efforts to prevent that.

i try to save bananas for post workout since they are higher GI but in the grand scheme of things, i don't think it makes a significant difference (i try to be on the safer side though). the protein and the fat in the cottage cheese will lower the GI of the banana when eaten in combination.
