For dinner tonight I cooked up the following (estimations):

3oz thincut Salmon
1oz Avocado
2 Kalmatta Olives
1/2 a medium tomato
and chives + S&P

This was basically a fat meal. I'm tired of nuts and PB.

How Mediterranean am I? haha.

Good for you for eating that way. :tu: We are having wild salmon, brown rice, tomatoes and broccoli tonight.

The book I just finished reading showed evidence that cultures who follow a traditional Mediterranean, or traditional Japanese, diet (without being influenced by western fast foods, donuts and sugary foods) have the longest lifespans. Unfortunately, those cultures are being influenced by the "Big-assed Western diet" and their mortality rate is rising from diseases associated with Western foods.

Cold water wild fish, lean proteins, lots of a wide variety of veggies, olive oil, garlic, tomato sauce, among other things, have been shown to be part of a healthy diet and longevity. Indulge.

I just moved to the Mediterranean!

Just for the record, btw, Med. area people only live an average of 2 years longer than people from the U.S. Two years I'd rather have, granted, but I'm not convinced that the high fat, high carb diet should be on such a high pedestal.

Yes, but I did say traditional, meaning uninfluenced by Western diet, and with few simple carbs. Such people live much longer than the two year difference. You will have to look for people in areas in which no garbage foods have crossed their lips. Parts of Sardinia or Okinawa, for example. Take Okinawa: it is isolated from Japan by a series of islands stretching about 1000 kilometers from the southernmost tip of the Japanese islands into the East China Sea. There are people there who don’t know what a whopper or a donut is. They eat wild fish as well as other proteins raised without crappy feed, growth hormones and antibiotics along with their own fresh locally grown vegetables. With the people I am talking about, obesity is rare, as is hypertension and atherosclerosis. Of course, you have to look at their environment, too. Their air is cleaner and water is too and the people continue to do manual labor into their 90’s. Interestingly, there is a much higher percentage of people who are vital into there 90’s then there are here. There are exceptions, of course, but here, many begin a rapid decline the last 10 to 20 years of their life. Western science can prolong this with medication, but not with the same quality and vitality as these people enjoy. Sadly, Okinawa is slowly being Westernized. Naha and other population centers now have Western diets and fast foods and sedentary lifestyles. Those that live in these populated areas have a high mortality rate.
