My wife and I started yoga last month. Something for us to do together and to help her get back into a fitness routine.

I thought it might be cool to hear from others who do yoga (I know you do, Jeremy). What type? How often. If you've done more than one kind, what do you like/dislike?

Ours is a beginner class, hatha. So far the instructor talks too much. We're the youngest in the class (40, 39) and so the pace is slow. I'm looking into intermediate classes that begin to combine poses into flowing routines. Now it's just basics and not really a workout, per se.

I bought a yoga dvd last week at walmart and started doing it last friday. It's just a beginners video to yoga, not really sure what type though. I mainly bought it to help me with flexibility/balance/center for when I rock climb. In a couple of weeks I will probably move up to the 2x per week class at my gym. ATM I try to get 30 minutes of the video in a day.

Well I'm not doing any now, but we used yoga for breathing and flexibility work for fencing. It works OK. I would use other stuff now for a good deal of it, but it's not all that different from the yoga.

I've been doing yoga DVD's at home for about 6 months now. I started doing them to help stretch out my lower back and now it's become a regular part of my workout regiment.

All of the routines I do are hosted by Rodney Yee. You can check out http://www.yeeyoga.com to see all of his DVD's.

I do yoga workouts about 3-4 times a week, primarily on non-lifting days. My flexibility has improved greatly and my back hasn't bothered me in months.

The two routines I've followed are from Rodney Yee (I see a link above - I love his flexibility and strength routines) and then Adrienne Reed (you can Google her, she has a GREAT series).

I saw the Yee DVD's at Target, I'll check those out. I really need help on flexibility, especially hips/quads. Even relaxed, my quads are like steel bands.

I'm a yoga instructor and have been practicing for the past 5-6 years, although my practice is almost non-existant at the moment, which is bad.. I need to get back into the habit

there are a lot of really good positions that help with hip flexability... check out http://www.yogajournal.com/ (http://www.yogajournal.com/) they have really good pictures and instructions for many yoga positions  :tucool:

oh and Rodney Yee is awesome!

I actually find myself laughing out loud at some of the positions he get's into. The idea of contorting my body the same way he does is simply funny. Great stuff though.

I've noticed a great deal of added flexibility since starting yoga once per week about 9 months ago -- oh, it is Hatha.

I also credit the additional stretching with helping me stay injury free (mostly), helping with deads and squats, and helping me even out strength imbalances that I didn't even know existed (hip flexor, ab- and adducter, etc.)

Yoga is also very good in terms of an injury prevention standpoint. Done properly it's also a good stress reliever too.:)
