View Full Version : I need to recover my muscles in 24h!!! Help please
boLa8 Thu, February 8th, 2007, 01:00 PM Hi! well i did something stupid yesterday..
We had a river outing rowing in the river at 6:30 in the morning (it was -7c by the way!) as we normally have on wednesdays, it was great.. but then i got asked for the most experience rowing team in the club if i could sub for one of their bow rowers that missed the practice, this was around 3:30 in the afternoon..
and here is the problem, i over did it, i had 4 hours of rowing in a day and now my back hurts, my leg hurts and all my muscles are screaming in pain!!!!
Normally i wouldnt care, its normal, but.. i have a 2200m race tomorrow at 1 and I NEED TO RECOVER!!!!!
So the question is: What food/drink mix is best to recover? something high in sugar? water mixed with sugar?
Thanks alot in advanced!.

sugar is NOT the answer... REST, and eating protein and carbs will be the best route, but don't eat or drink things that will only turn to fat (sugar) because you are resting today... a lot of us here use dextrose (sugar) in our post workout shakes, but that is only beneficial immediately after a workout and when combined with protein… the sugar helps to shuttle the protein to the muscle more quickly… however, it is only beneficial to do that up to an hour after a workout… after that the sugar will only cause an insulin spike that will kill your energy when it drops, and it WILL drop… so eat and REST and hopefully you won’t be too tired tomorrow ;)
SeanB. Thu, February 8th, 2007, 04:01 PM I would think an anti-inflamatory would be in order. Make sure you listen to your body tomorrow. Don't turn this into an injury.
boLa8 Thu, February 8th, 2007, 04:06 PM ah thanks for the answers! i will look for anti-inflamatory see if i got any.
I just had a 20min bath... except the water was EXTREMELY COLD it was one of the hardest things ive ever done.. i googled for a little bit and it looked like a ice bath was the best way to go.. and seems to be working! i dont fell anything.. haha ill wait till my body stops shaking..
Good pasta night tonite and maybe ill find some anti-inflamatories!

iceweaselsarecool Thu, February 8th, 2007, 08:32 PM Ice baths are great. The key though, is to relax and not let this get into your head. Also, warm up properly tomorrow before the race. You'll probably feel better than you think once you get the blood flowing again.

I was going to suggest an ice bath. Well, let us know if that was the right answer.
boLa8 Fri, February 9th, 2007, 04:24 AM Yes it was! i feel GREAT! amazing stuff ok it was hard been on a very cold bath for 20mins but it was well worth it! my muscles are not tensed or hurt any more, from not been able to move without pain to been able to strech fine!
I did put a little bit of weight, probably from the carbs and the days rest.
