View Full Version : High Blood pressure cause of eggs?
droopy172 Wed, January 24th, 2007, 05:16 PM So I went to the doctor to get some antibiotics for an ear infection and my blood pressure was 145 over 90. I can't understand how or what?!? My blood pressure is usually on the dot and has been up until now. I'm 185lbs with 14% bf. I'm currently bulking and I don't eat any simple sugars. I eat a ton of oats, plenty of EFA's, protein, I don't sprinkle salt on anything and i eat all meats plain or sometimes with BBQ sauce or maybe a merinade. I do cardio 3 times a week along with my lifting plan of 3 times a week. I do however eat 4 eggs a day with the yolk i'm wondering if that's causing it? Should i just eat the egg white or just cut out the eggs all together? I'm not sure what else it could be. List of things I eat...
Oatmeal
Soy sausage patty
Eggs with yolk
2% milk
Heavy whipping cream (used sparingly in meal replacement shakes)
Strawberries
Pineapples
Apples
Coffee with 1 splenda packet
olive oil
Broccoli
Peanut Butter
Wheat Bread
Chicken breasts
Potato
Sweet Potato
Tuna
Fish oil caps
Mixed Nuts
Brown Rice
95% lean ground beef or sirloin beef tips
I have a cheat meal of pizza once every week.
Green tea
Maya Wed, January 24th, 2007, 05:47 PM Your diet looks great. I eat 2, sometimes 3 (whole) eggs a day and my blood pressure just recently was 95/55 before coffee and 100/60 after LOL
Mine was once 140/90, but it was because birth control (Evra- patch), so I had to stop that. Normally, my whole life my blood pressure was on lower end. Taking the regular pill- normal, now off- low.
Maybe you were nervous?
Are you on any medication?
Buy blood pressure monitor and take your blood pressure every morning. They are not that expensive.
droopy172 Thu, January 25th, 2007, 01:06 AM Thanx maya hmm perhaps its the coffee i drink? I dunno i wasn't nervous or anything but I took some sudafed the day before maybe that has something to do with it? I guess it would since it clears your sinuses i'm guessing it makes your blood vessals thinner? I hope that's the case I hate to change my diet again and messing with macros and amount of calories. Its just weird cuz i always had low blood pressure all my life and i've always been in pretty good shape.

I really doubt its your diet. Retake your blood pressure few times and let us know.
Coffee will raise blood pressure, but not that much....
Good luck!
philph Thu, January 25th, 2007, 05:03 AM Yes, Sudafed can increase blood pressure. Also, the fact that you took Sudafed suggests you have a cold or similar, and maybe that itself raised your BP.
My other thoughts: 1) blood pressure can vary widely from minute to minute. One time my doctor took one reading that "showed" I was hypertensive, but instead of launching into the usual lecture the doc waited ten mins, took another reading, and it was normal. 2) blood pressure can be significantly raised for quite a while after exercise. 3) day to day variations in consumption of sodium, etc (if I have a single cup of yeast extract spread, which contains sodium and MSG, I can reckon on a good few extra points on the blood pressure machine the next morning).
Butterflyer Thu, January 25th, 2007, 09:05 AM I'll agree with Sudafed raising your blood pressure. It may even say that on the package-- I know it can raise eye pressure.

Bingo! :D
droopy172 Thu, January 25th, 2007, 12:21 PM Cool thanx everyone I just didn't think it was because of that since it was 24 hours since I took it. I guess that stuff stays in your system for quite sometime huh? I was just concerned about eating whole eggs people kept telling me that it can't be good for you too much cholesteral and fat blah blah blah and I always read that the yolk is the most nutritious part so I always ate it especially since i'm bulking. I always heard all that bad stuff about eggs and cholesteral was a myth especially if you eat a lot of fruits, veggies, and oats. Seems like an endless argument.
Gordo Thu, January 25th, 2007, 12:40 PM Pseudoephedrine's half life is approx 9-16 hours. Absolutely it can induce hypertension.
Are you taking any other supps? If so, what are they?
As to eggs. There's a fair amount of saturated fat in the yolk. Just be aware of that and don't go overboard. It's no myth. Too many yolks on a consistant basis and you are asking for potential trouble. Really, you don't need to go looking for saturated fat. It's easy to get from a wide variety of sources.

droopy172 Thu, January 25th, 2007, 01:47 PM I usually eat 4 eggs so that's about 8 grams of saturdated fat so that's not too bad. The only supps i take is Beverly Creatine with phosphates, BCAA powder, Nitrean, and a Multivitamin.
Skoorb Fri, January 26th, 2007, 12:23 PM Cardio nurse told me it can vary as much as 10 ml of mercury on the arm. I know my BP was 130/80 a few days ago and the next day it was 120/78 on a different arm at a different time in the day and on no coffee. Coffee can raise it.
I'd keep an eye on it and try again later on no coffee.
I would skip on the 4 yolks/day, though.
