I noticed that there are quite a few members from outside of the States. I am going to school in Madrid, Spain, (live near Boston, MA normally). I have found it somewhat difficult to find simple things, like egg whites, oatmeal, brown rice, etc., while things like fresh fish, tuna, and most veggies are overabundant. Does anyone have any tips on finding healthy foods outside the USA?

I don't as I've never been abroad, but I hope you're taking advantage of that fact and eating lots of fresh fish and veggies, two things that people around here often don't eat enough of.

I really didn't have too much of a problem. The things I had trouble finding overseas were Kraft Dinner, Oreos, cheddar cheese, ice cream....
I missed the low fat dairy products, but otherwise was okay.
Egg whites are not difficult. Break open egg, separate the white, throw out the yolk. (I use a juggling technique with the shell, but aparently it works quite well into a funnel.)
You can usually find oats at natural food stores.
We also carried large quantities of whole grains, artificial sweeteners, and seasonings with us in our luggage whenever we had the opportunity.

Hey Joe! (oh, that reminded me of this song by J. Hendrix i love!)
I live in Spain right now and yes, sometimes finding stuff does get challenging.
Egg whites? Forget it. I dont know about Madrit, but Barcelona? Impossible to find.
Same goes for peanut butter (Crema de Cacahuetes)...difficult to find
Crema de Almendras...watch it. Usually in the regular supermarkets its a sugary white stuff....not what you think when you think of Almond butter. You want the natural stuff....then you have to go to store with herbs and other natural stuff to find the real thing.
On other hand.... copos de avena (oatmeal) is GREAT :D
Let me know if you need any help!
