Why is my systolic pressure so high?

26 yo, male, 250 lb, 25% bf (I realize I'm fat that's why I'm eating better and working out...), but isn't that a strange reading? I can't even find out if it's normal or not online. I'd say not.

My pulse was slightly elevated during the test, usually I'm around 60 resting, it was 70 something.

I was about to give blood for the first time, can anxiety cause bp to go that high?

Just a bit worried. I'm hitting the bike tomorrow; your bp spikes when you wake up, don't want to hop on the bike and have something explode.

thanks!

152 is quite high - Stage I Hypertension, actually. Your BP really needs to be compared with your own BP over time, but by almost any measure that is high.

You should go see a doctor about that as high BP is a common problem and may be indicative of all sorts of problems. This isn't the sort of thing you want to diagnose online -- correcting your BP ASAP can prevent many many problems.

Good luck :tucool:

Yeah, that is a bit high, but likely will be brought down once you drop some fat. My BP was 160/100 a few years ago, but with exercise, and some modest fat loss, my BP now measures 120/80 quite regularly.

You could see a doc if you're really concerned about it, but yeah that is above normal from what I understand and most definitely if you can shave some serious lbs off it will drop.

The seemingly obvious and best advice is to see a doctor.

Moreover, your home blood pressure monitor may not be accurate, giving you a false reading up or down.

Additional suggestions are to follow the directions that came with the unit, keep a log that includes the time of day and b/p. This can help see any pattern(s) that may exist. Furthermore, when you do see your doctor take in your monitor. Compare your monitor's results to theirs. Their's should be calibrated.
