where I talked about my shoulder hurting after weighted dips. Well, after 2 days, it was gone. Then all of a sudden, I started to feel *something* higher up on the shoulder than when I originally felt pain. It's not so much pain though as like a tingling maybe?

Anyway, I took off the past 2 days to see how it would fell but I'm DYING to go lift tomorrow. I don't have pain per se, just like I said, a weird sensation every now and then. I'm not sure if it's injured or just my mind playing tricks on me since I "think" I hurt it?

Basically, I just want to know what you all experience pain wise. Is it PAIN where you KNOW it's injured or is it something like I'm describing where it's hardly there, but you feel something a little unusual? Have I lost you yet? haha

Trying to decide if I should lift tomorrow or not...

I would also like to know because after doing some incline benchpress the other day my shoulder is been hurting...

It's been 4 days and the pain is gone, but I'm afraid to lift again and hurt my shoulder...

Trying to decide if I should lift tomorrow or not... You've got health insurance from something, right? Take tomorrow off and use the time calling a doctor to make an appointment to get it checked out.

You know how much you'll be set back if you're wrong and it's not just in your head!

Knowing what I know now: If I felt abnormal pain and after a few days of rest it was totally gone, then I would resume my workouts using lighter weights and slowly build back up to heavy weights over a few weeks time. If the pain returned, even slightly, I would discontinue my workouts and see my doctor.

If I get any sort of joint discomfort, I take at least a day off from lifting. I dont want to risk any injuries. That would set me back a lot more than taking a day off.

When I first started running for track my knees were KILLING me.....but I pulled through. I would have to take nice, long warm ups, and then they would still hurt. I added MSM to my daily supplements (look into adding MSM for joint problems) and I get the weekends off. After that weekend things got alot better, though they were still a little soar.
All in all, Im suggesting you look into some MSM and like mentioned, take it easy on your shoulder for a couple days.

Well, as it was, my dad had discomfort in his calf, so he passed on the gym this morning and since I'm at home, I have nowhere else to lift but as his "guest". So I took today off except for some HIIT and Sunday I will do a light shoulder workout and monitor it over the days after that. I swear, it's always something with me!

Thanks guys!

I hurt my shoulder 5 months ago and it's still not totally well though the pain is gone. I still have slightly limited range of motion and an occaisional non-painful pop or crackle.

I would recommend not lifting until the pain and tingling are gone. Then start out very light, maybe just using the bar and no weights. Add weight a little at a time as tolerated. If there is any recurrence of pain or discomfort then I'd strognly recommend seeing your doctor.

I have the same thing. I didn't even have initial pain, just a kind of odd feeling, with cracking and popping. I think that it is stressed cartilage, or an irritated bursa. I'm taking next week off.

It's so hard to tell in many cases if the pain is from an injury or just from lifting or in your case dips. From my experience lay off the dips for a few days and try again. When I injured mine and reinjured it again several years later I knew something was wrong. If pain persists see a doctor about it. Last year I went in for an MRI on my shoulder and found out I have a slight labrum tear. I think I did it 20 years ago playing ball in high school and have lived with it ever since. At the time it was very painful but I never had anyone look at it. It's a small tear but hurt like hell the original time I damaged it and the time I reinjured it. I was planning on surgery but January came and I saw Johns site. I started back weightlifting and have been pain free but I don't do dips or many shoulder excercises. I still get twinges when stretching and I can't really throw a baseball or football too hard for fear of doing more damage. I think eventually I will have it operated on but it will have to be in a sling and and then rehabed for 12 weeks. It's a touchy area that you have to be careful with because if injured it can set you back quite a bit.

Dips have proven to be pretty dangerous for the shoulder-It automatically places it in an unnatural position at the bottom of the movement. I never do them-and I think upright rows and behind the neck presses are really bad too. Also, when doing dumbell chest presses, incline or flat, I only go down to where my elbows are at 90 degrees. All of these decisions has helped me to not have shoulder pain beyond the pain I've always had.

I agree. I avoid dips like the plague. I also avoid wide-grip bench presses, pec flyes, and push ups.
