Would anybody happen to know if having coffee post workout along with protein, creatine and dextrose would have a detrimental effect on insulin levels and the overall effectiveness of the protein and creatine? My reason for asking is that I'm trying to avoid milk with my whey protein shake and was just thinking that mixing it with black iced coffee might be yummy. It's still only 6am when I'm done working out so I could also use a bit more energy to get me going. I'm really not that concerned with the dehydrating effects of coffee cause I do drink a lot of water after working out and throughout the rest of the day.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question but I've got another coffee-related question that maybe someone can address in addition to yours -- I've been following the BFL book's advice to work out first thing in the a.m., on an empty stomach, and not eat till 1 hr after the end of my workout to maximize the fat burning effect -- my question is, will drinking 1 cup of coffee (with a little skim milk, no sugar) before working out lessen the fat-burning effect at all? I supposed I could wait till later for the coffee but it definitely helps get me out the door at 5:40 a.m. to get to the gym before work!

Caffeine is fine in general, but more than an occasional cup will diminsh the effects of the creatine. Here's a reference http://ausinsider.gotdns.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=201 and you can find lots more on google.
