Well I'm jus starting to workout seriously and our soccer team now has required lifting 1 hour mondays, wednesdays, fridays. Would doing this in addition to my planned workout at night 3x a week prevent gains/be unhealthy?

Yes, and yes.

Over training is harmful and ineffective. A full body workout 3x a week, or a simple split would be far more beneficial/effective.

thanks.. it's not full body, but would be a split of
m - chest/triceps
w - back/shoulders/biceps
f - legs
but i still wouldnt feel like i did enough just doing the 1 hour on those days

You really want to rethink the whole program around the new required activity. It depends on what your night workout was going to be whether it's OK or not. It also depends on the level of fitness you have achieved.

The simplest thing to do is to go back to your original program and "subtract" the soccer lifting program from it. If there isn't much work left? Then just skip it. If there are some really important exercises that you will be losing from only doing the soccer program? Then the best thing is to figure out how to add them to your soccer workouts as supplemental lifting.

One thing you want for good results is a good deal of rest, and lots of it in big uninterrupted pieces.

I think 1 hour is plenty of time:nod:

What does the soccer "required" workouts look like? Are they short, long, full body, splits? A lot of school programs leave a lot to be desired, and you might be able to round out the programs with your own workouts.

Sorry we were jus startin out so i couldnt answer yet but ill bring the sheet back on friday.. basically it focuses more on endurance with light weights/high reps with two days of circuits and one day of power lifts.
I was really set on getting stronger and bigger so any ideas

Well you might be able to workout twice on the high rep days, depending on how intense the lifting is. Maybe even ask the coach if you can start your own program, get another person or two that would like to achieve the same goals to work out with you, and have him take a look at your routine. Hopefully the coach will realize there are many ways to achieve the fitness you and him are looking for.
