View Full Version : What do you wear?
Jokat Sun, January 14th, 2007, 11:08 AM Hi all,
I was wondering what you all wear to gym. Most gyms are full of people wanting to impress and the clothing reflects this but occationally you get the hardcore guy or girl that doesn't give a rats ass about what they are wearing, they have come to train.
When I started at my gym I went and bought all the gear so that I would fit in but I find it a bind putting it all on and would be more comfortable in a vest and board shorts or track pants.
So what do you wear?

Tank and shorts.
Here's me modeling the tank:

danboback Sun, January 14th, 2007, 11:19 AM tee shirt and shorts
George Sun, January 14th, 2007, 11:44 AM A slightly baggy t-shirt and shorts that end about an inch above my knees. If I'm not training lower body that day, I'll also wear a pair of sweat pants.
Kenpo Fist Sun, January 14th, 2007, 11:45 AM Shorts (usually Everlast type) and any old t-shirt. Most of the quality gyms here in LA have banned the wearing of tank tops because people sweat and leave germs, sweat and stink on the benches/machines they use.
HevyMetal Sun, January 14th, 2007, 12:31 PM I tend to go "hot"
sweatpants and sweat-top except for summer.
bradh Sun, January 14th, 2007, 02:12 PM I have trained in just my underwear.
Thinking to thy self - train naked...now that would be interesting....
JoeSchmo Sun, January 14th, 2007, 03:34 PM tee shirt and shorts
Yup, me too. I've always just worn shorts and a t-shirt.
rtestes Sun, January 14th, 2007, 04:08 PM T-shirt and shorts in fall and summer.
A chill in the air - Sweat suit.
You never have to dress sloppy, just appropriate.
:bb:
leftyx Sun, January 14th, 2007, 04:57 PM I'm guilty. I like the look of the underarmour shirts. Also I wear baggy sparkle shorts. And socks and headband to match. And low top Chuck Taylors. I don't sweat so it's usually a sleeveless top. I have to go sleeveless because I wear my iPod Shuffle 1st gen around my upper arm. I do admit that the sennheiser ear clips are green and dorkey looking. Hey with all those mirrors around you may as well like what you see.
John Stone Sun, January 14th, 2007, 05:23 PM Cheap shorts, old tanks and steel-toed boots.

mastover Sun, January 14th, 2007, 05:49 PM I've got a bunch of Walt Disney and Winny the Pooh long sleeve 3XXX T shirts I always wear along with long baggy shorts.
If people make fun of me, I come back next time wearing my Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs baseball cap - backwards - to show them I mean business. :)

chicanerous Sun, January 14th, 2007, 08:36 PM Sweat pants and plain black or gray undershirt. In the summer, I wear athletic shorts cut above the knee.
I used to wear tank tops but now they embarrass me.
HevyMetal Mon, January 15th, 2007, 10:40 PM John Stone...
2 questions...
What are you doing in that picture? Some kind of "hack" squat?
Also.....why the steel toe boots? Or were you just kidding about that?
:)

Your my new hero. :D
As for me. Pair of shorts and a t-shirt. I do have a moisture wicking underarmor like shirt. (I cant justify the real deal price)
For cool weather, I have a pair of track pants, and a couple of long sleeve shirts.
John Stone Mon, January 22nd, 2007, 08:06 PM What are you doing in that picture? Some kind of "hack" squat?Behind the back barbell shrugs.
Also.....why the steel toe boots? Or were you just kidding about that? No, I wasn't kidding. The gym can be a dangerous place for a klutz like me. Those boots have already saved my toes twice. And they make me feel hardcore. Mastover recommended them because he said they make him feel like an animal in the gym.

Don't they say that the boots make the man?
I found a pair of boots in my closet the other day and, after putting them on to walk down the street, was suprised at how large and in charge I felt with something substantial on my feet.
I immediately thought of your boots and how great it probably feels to train in them. Plus, as you've said, they're practical for safety reasons.
// usually wears sandals or goes barefoot, all the time, everywhere, outside, all seasons
farang Tue, January 23rd, 2007, 02:22 AM Whatever is clean. There's nothing worse than a guy in the gym who doesn't bother to wash his clothes.
williamso Tue, January 23rd, 2007, 09:57 AM I like to wear old baggy t-shirt and athletic shorts just above the knee.
Typically, my T-shirts are the kind that must be earned. Road races and blood donation are the main sources of workout shirts for me.

Yes, I like to wear them especially with my pink 3XXX Miss Piggy Muppets long sleeve T when I'm doing squats.
However, you've got to be careful....some gyms will throw you out for that kind of apparel. It violates some of their stringent rules. LOL
Butterflyer Tue, January 23rd, 2007, 10:45 AM Shorts and a t-shirt for weights.:tu: Always. It is never, ever cool enough indoors at a gym for me to wear long pants.
A lot of my exercise is outdoors though, so right now it's snow pants and flannel underneath my coat.
guava Tue, January 23rd, 2007, 11:47 AM I don't go to the gym. It may be partly due to vanity issues.
I don't find baggy t-shirts to be comfortable when working out. I'm most comfortable in a tank or sports bra, but I'm conscious that people may think I'm trying to dress to impress if I wear them outside of my house.

It's Winnie. :D

 ......hmmm, now I think I know why Walmart was selling them in their clothing "rejects" section for $1.99. They spelled his name wrong. LOL
I gotta check the spelling on the Miss Piggy now. I hope they didn't rip me off
darksleeper25 Tue, January 23rd, 2007, 01:13 PM I used to wear only a shorts and any t-shirt that was clean but after awhile, like someone already mentioned, I didn't like the way I looked in all those damned mirrors. So I went out and got new T-shirts and pair of thin breathable workout pants. I like the way I look now and it gives me a little more self-confidence.
BigDog Tue, January 23rd, 2007, 02:04 PM Baggy shorts.
Low cut socks.
Low top Chuck Taylors. (old pair was pink and black; new pair is white. Both were purchased on sale for less than $24).
Shirts vary between a few of the underarmor/Nike pro-fit shirts - which I thought I would not like, but are actually really comfortable and a mess of old shirts. My favorite is my Mr. Bubble T-shirt.
I work out at home, so my main requirement is that it be clean and comfortable.

....as logical as it may be to wear steel toed boots - I can't bring myself to train in anything other than bare feet
I suppose that's another perk of training at home - I don't recall visiting too many gyms that allow bare feet.
And I've developed this nifty little dance step to save my toes whenever I drop a plate:jumping:

Sometimes I wear stretchy pants... It's for fun.
adamh707 Sun, February 11th, 2007, 03:44 AM Icky shuffle?
Hahaha.
I train in Sports team supporter shirts, Footy jerseys and board shorts and cheapie runners. I like the Idea of training on Boots, i find when i work with them on i get alot more stability and strenght through the foot. Might give it a try.
Timbermiko Wed, February 14th, 2007, 12:52 AM Me? A XXL sweatshirt turned inside out (helps keep the bar from rolling all over when squatting) Sweats and a pair of Chuck Taylors:tu:
wolfvgang22 Wed, February 14th, 2007, 06:18 PM gone
Mossie Wed, February 21st, 2007, 01:46 PM I wear steel toe shoes as well. I recently dropped a 35 LB plate directly on my toes. After hitting my steel toe, as the plate fell back, the plate edge skinned up my chin a little, but my toes weren't broken. :tu:
