View Full Version : I almost passed out and puked....
needachange January 10th, 2007, 10:38 AM From Traditional Deadlifts and I LOVE EM!!!! Yesterday I manned up and quit the Rack Pulls like you guys suggested and WOW Deadlifts are amazing. This is now officially my new favorite excersize :D I did a 5X5 routine and after each set I felt like I was gonna fall over  I could feel it in my Hamstrings, Glutes, Quads, Lower Back, Mid Back, Traps, Abs and Forearms ect. ect. If there is people out there like me that were "scared" of Deadlifts don't be!!
eleonardo January 10th, 2007, 10:52 AM I love deadlifts too!
bradh January 10th, 2007, 12:16 PM My favorite lift.
gazza123 January 10th, 2007, 12:30 PM I was in the same boat, but over squats. As I workout at home on my own, I have no spotter or rack and space is limited to say the least.
Anyway last week I did them instead of hack squats and I am NEVER going to do hack squats ever again!
Jokat January 10th, 2007, 12:58 PM I just dont get deadlifts. I just feel like I am picking something heavy up but I dont feel it in any specific muscles (with the exception of SLDLs, those I feel in my hams).
I know the deadlift is like bodybuilding bread and butter but it just doesnt do it for me like say bench press or squats.
I still do them though, cos is like written in stone.
bradh January 10th, 2007, 01:01 PM Deadlifts are different. I usually don't get much of a pump but i feel very strong and fast after doing them. Also, my arms usually come off my lats a bit from the blood pump to the lats.

See I may have felt like it was working my whole body because I don't normally do them. I'm sure after a while they will be just like every other excersize where I don't "feel" like they are doing anything. But for now I will enjoy it while it lasts

Oh i feel it. ;) It is pretty well a whole body excercise and will add mass quicker then any other lift IMO.

Oh I'm already quite sore today so I know tommorow I'm gonna be in a world of hurt  I don't mind though I like the soreness I've never had a problem with it.

Well yeah deads are fun.
Eat som dextrose to avoid passing out or puking until you increase your lactate threshold.
High lactate threshold = no puking and hard to pass out.

You want to feel it? Do a brisk set of barbell jump squats when you have not done heavy deads. Figure out what kind of set is appropriate for you.
Then try that right after you recover from a set of heavy deads. You might still not feel it, but you'll figure out that you're not in Kansas any more....

My money is on the second day,....when you try to head up the first set of stairs,...
Ha!,...After my first working set, I feel like I weigh about 10 lbs walking away from the bar,..

Yes. Good old barbell deadlifts.
needachange January 11th, 2007, 12:04 PM Ok so today I'm sore in places I didn't know I could be sore  Oh well guess I'll take another day off and let my body heal a little more. There is no way I could do squats today
Also you know what I realized is that my gym has 12 sided plates how dumb is that  On Deads when you set the bar down the plates never sit down flat they shift on one side or the other stupidest design EVER!!!! so you have to re-adjust before every pull. I don't know why I just thought of that it's funny I guess becuase I looked at that exrx.net gif. of the deadlift and noticed the plates were round.

Some of the plates at my gym are round at parts, and like have handles at others. Those suck.

Yeah the ones we have are similar to this but the handles are different.

What's a matter? Can't do them yourself? :D
bradh January 11th, 2007, 02:48 PM What's a matter? Can't do them yourself? :D
I have used them in the past but i just stuck with the standard dead, mainly because it supposely hits more back fibers.
I might give them a go when i get my 500lb dead. :p
betastas January 11th, 2007, 03:09 PM Yeah I'm just ribbin you. I like sumo but I need to incorporate conventional.
