As far as I can tell, pre lifting meals should consist of low GI carbs and some protein, post lifting meals should have high GI carbs with protein. Is that about right or am I way off base?

Is that about right or am I way off base? Yes I agree with that. You also want a slower releasing protein pre workout, and a quick releasing one (Whey) post workout. Just what I think though  JeremyLikness Tue, January 9th, 2007, 07:53 AM As far as I can tell, pre lifting meals should consist of low GI carbs and some protein, post lifting meals should have high GI carbs with protein. Is that about right or am I way off base? That seems to hit it on the head. However, I've trained for years with no special pre or post workout shakes and done fine as well. My maximum muscle gains in the shortest period of time came with a strict regimen of high protein (300 - 400g) and consuming about half my body weight in sugars post workout. One bulking phase I used bananas and avocados and didn't worry about protein at all, the other I used Beverly Mass Maker post-workout, and another I used Surge! which I'm not even sure is still produced (BioTest product developed by John Berardi) ... Surge! and Mass Maker definitely had a positive impact on my recovery and gains. Jeremy |
