my workout partner is saying that it's good to take a week of every couple of months... is he right?

A lot of people do that. It helps allow the body to fully recover, and then you can also freshen yourself up to get ready for a couple more months of lifting

Absolutely. Even elite athletes who have access to a plethora of methods to improve their recovery ability, have scheduled periods of total rest built into their training schedule.

Yeah, its good. I'm not sure that you need to have a set schedule though. I just listen to my body .... sometimes I take a week off after only 4 weeks of training, whereas at other times, I've trained continuously for 6 months plus before taking a week off. It depends on how my body is responding at the time.

I would say every three months but that's not that big a deal. Yeah, take a week off now and then.

:nod: :nod: I take one off every 10-12 weeks. I also drop my set and/or weights every 4 week to aid in recovery in most of my routines.

yeh! take one week off every 10 weeks where ever you think you need it or not. You might take one before you start a new program, also. Rest and recovery periods are important to observe.:tucool:
