In search of another good complex carb source (to add to oatmeal, brown rice, and broccoli), I decided to give these yams a try.

I've found that I don't much like cooking them (and am generally too lazy to do so) so I've been eating them raw - and I find that I really like them :tu:

Anyone else munching on raw yams? They taste like sweeter carrots. There's no problem with this strategy is there?

I also usually just cut one in half, peel it, and start eating. I need to find a good scale so I can see how much I'm actually eating. Are these things calorie dense?

Some raw tubers like yams and potato need to be cooked or at least soaked before consumption. There are some natural occuring compounds that can make you sick. I dont know which varieties this applies to though. Do a search on the net to be sure.

You can bake them in the microwave in about 4-5 minutes. Why eat them raw.

Just rinse and poke holes around the outside with a knife first to keep them from exploding :D
