View Full Version : Explain something to me (weight gain, cheat meals)
Hoss Sat, January 6th, 2007, 07:37 PM I went around 6 months without a cheat meal (maybe a couple small slip ups, and besides Thanksgiving/Christmas, which I was pretty good about).
Had my first cheat meal last Wed. Did some reading up about "cheating" and I saw that many people go all out on cheat meals; eating everything in sight. I did that. Not good, I know.
Tonight ended up being another cheat meal (beating myself up over it)... (in my fitday). One piece of pizza, 3 bread sticks, 2 jack in the box pitas (3.5 grams of fat, 1 gram sat fat) and some brownies.
From my understanding, you'd have to eat over 3500 calories to gain fat. I'm probably at 2500 for today; will I gain fat from today? Combined with Wed?
txitalian Sat, January 6th, 2007, 08:54 PM In theory, to gain one pound of body fat, you would have to consume about 3500 calories MORE than you burned in any given time frame. It doesn't mean if you eat 3500 calories in one day you will automatically gain fat.
Don't beat yourself up over a cheat meal, it's not a big deal and usually ends up helping you more than hurting you. It's worse to go 6 months without a cheat than to have 1 on a weekly basis IMO. I have found that when I go along time without a cheat, when I do cheat, it is usually the all out kind you were speaking of.

Man - when you said all out - i thought we were gonna hear some serious gluttony. At 16 - you gotta be out of your mind to not ease up on the diet more than every 6 months!
You'd have to eat 3500 calories above your regular daily calorie levels - and expect your body to efficiently store all 3500 calories of it as fat. While some storage is bound to happen - it's not going to amount to a full pound. (Hell - some might even be muscle) When you go back to eating clean - you're going to have a massive BM, drain a bunch of sodium out of your system and probably not even notice a ounce in gain two days from now. :tucool:
1FastGTX Sun, January 7th, 2007, 01:20 AM A good friend and PT once told me:
One meal won't make you fit, and one meal won't make you fat.
In your case, I'd say 10 meals won't make you fat. ;)

I'm going to start incorporating cheat meals once a week :)
They're a huge psychological relief at times.

Could have told me that before everyone else ate the last of the pizza!
Maya Sun, January 7th, 2007, 05:29 AM I was actually TOLD by my PT to have something bad, something that I usually dont eat once a week....and Im training for competition (Im 5 months away though).
I was told to have it on top of what I eat, even on my high carb day.
He said something to the effect tha it just confuses your body and gets your metabolism going :tu:
