I did a search and there's one topic from quite awhile ago. But I wanted to know if there were any recent recommendations for a good, yet inexpensive, digital kitchen scale. I googled them, and there's a ton out there.

Thanks in advance!!

I've been kind of think about getting one as well but wonder if it's actually necessary. Right now, I just use the eyeball method, getting about a fist sized portion of whatever I'm eating.

Anyone buy a scale who thinks it was a waste, or was it a good investment?

BTW, I like the second scale better - looks like it was meant to hold a plate.

I have this one from wal-mart. (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4694336) Cost around $30. Have had it for years with no problems.

Well, personally I like the good old fashioned analogue scales. Whatever you get remember to place them on a solid falt surface - not carpet. I was very confused when using some scales once, then realised it was because the carpet was slightly pushing back on the scales and giving a false reading. Not that I use them much. I am overweight again at the moment and my wife has said I need to get down to 85 kilos - if i do I can buy a new computer in June! So I use them to see how close I am to getting a new computer - not to weight fat / muscle.

I don't think there's much danger of him weighing his food on the carpet.:D He's looking at scales to weigh food portions.;)

It's great having a scale, especially if you're a beginner and just starting out. Eventually though over time you'll be able to gauge/eyeball the amounts. I still use mine though just to be sure and safe with hitting my macros.

I saw that Terraillon scale from Walmart. It just didn't say what the accuracy was. I looked it up and it says it's accurate to 1g. That's what I'm looking for. I'm just unsure if I'll need a 5 lb. or 11 lb. cap.

As long as I can get it this weekend, I'll be fine. Because Monday is D-day for me!!

I received the Salter http://www.amazon.com/Salter-1004-11-Pound-Stainless-Steel-Digital/dp/B0000YWUW2/sr=8-4/qid=1168037982/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4/104-0600786-7251907?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden scale for Christmas. So far it's really great, and the abilitly to measure in grams along with zeroing out the scale is something that I never really thought that I'd love. Coincedentally, this is also the scale that John Stone has in his favorite things thread (in the off topic forum).

One of the reviews said that it's not very accurate, but I weighed a pint of water and it came out a pound, so that's good enough for me :)

That looks like a sweet scale. But what are your thoughts on the accuracy? Is it worth getting one that's accurate to 1g. Or does it not matter.

That scale there is accurate to 2g up to 5 lbs., the 5g up to 11 lbs.

Unless you're doing some science experiments in the kitchen, I think that you're going to be alright with this one. :D

Thank you to everyone for their input. I ended up getting this one from Salter at Linens'N'Things for $30:

http://www.salterhousewares.com/tpages/products/npopup.asp?model=299

It has a 7 lb. cap and 1g accuracy. I can't wait to use it now!!! I have a feeling I'm gonna be weighing EVERYTHING now :claphigh:

Good choice. You might be amazed by how off you were by eye-balling it.

No doubt!! I took what I thought was a pound of chicken breast and weighed it. 1.8 lbs!!!!!

No wonder my previous attempts at good eating didn't work as well as I hoped. This little baby will keep me honest and will hopefully help in my transformation!
