View Full Version : Just Started Workin Out
Rosie Sun, December 24th, 2006, 04:10 PM I just started working out about 3 months ago. I am doing calisthenics 3 days a week and cardio 6 days a week for 45 mins. I eat healthy everyday for breakfast, lunch, dinner and between meals I have protein shakes. The only liquids I drink are water, soymilk, and once in a while green tea or black coffee. I take Every Women Vitamins with a Wild Salmon Omega 3 pill. I wanted to incorporate a fat burner, but I do not know which one works best out on the market.
Am I overdoing it, Am I on the right track; I need advice to make adjustments if necessary. Oh, yeah since my workout I have lost 20lbs. I have a proportioned physic, but carry a more of my weight on my thick legs. I need advice PLEASE!:D

Hi Rosie,
Welcome to JSF and congrats on all your weight loss success so far! :)
Nutrition is going to be the number one factor in your continued success and if you can list what you are eating on a daily basis with portion sizes as well, it would help us to advise you more accurately.
As of this time, I would not advise a fat burner, and for the most part they are unnecessary, and even unhealthy, especially the stimulant based products.
The next step would be to join a gym and train with weights. Here's a brief article explaining the virues of weight trainin for women:
http://workoutsthatwork.tripod.com/p7.htm
The more lean muscle a woman builds, the more fat she will burn at rest. Your RMR (resting metabolic rate) will increase. What this means, is that you will burn more fat when at rest, or doing other chores, or even sleeping. By training with weights a woman will become leaner, tighter, shapelier, and healthier. Healthy bones is another advantage of weight training.
More of the women members should chime in here and extol the benefits of training and diet. But I believe you are on the right track, and by transcending into lifting, 2007 will shape up to be a great year for you! :tu:
Maya Mon, December 25th, 2006, 08:46 AM Hi Rosie! Welcome!
You know.... Mastover is right (as usual )
I have tried fat burners before , but I got much better results from just cleaning up my diet.
It just takes time my dear....
Could you post your diet so we can see what exactly you are doing?
buffedstuff Mon, December 25th, 2006, 09:05 PM Hello Rosie and welcome aboard, sounds like you are on the right track:nod: and I wish you well on your journey. As far as fat burners go I would say don't waste your health or money. You can reach your goals without them. :)
Rosie Tue, December 26th, 2006, 03:21 AM Hello Buffedstuff, Maya, and Mastover,
I appreciate your feedback and the words of encouragement. Here are my eating habits. I start off my day by taking a variety of different pills right after I eat breakfast.
1 Every Woman Vitamin (New Chapter Organics)
2 CLA Tonalin 1000mg softgels (Natural Factors)
2 Cod Liver Oil w/DHA and EPA softgels (Nordic Naturals)
1 L-Carnitine Fumarate 500mg (Jarrow Formulas)
1 Digest Gold (Enzymedica)
6:30 a.m. Morning - 100% Shredded Wheat (Barbara's) - 1 Biscuit
with 1 cup Vanilla Soy Milk (Silk) or an apple and a cup of soymilk
or three egg whites with fresh spinach/tomatoes/onions/garlic with 1cup of soymilk.
9:30 a.m. Snack - 100% Greens & Whey Shake (Biochem Sports)
12:30 p.m. Lunch - Ground Turkey or Ground Chicken with a mix of fresh spinach, tomatoes, onions, garlic, cabbage, bell peppers, jalapeņos and a dash of salt. I make patties on my George Forman Grill and have one patty for lunch with a Wasa Multi Grain Crispbread or Fish with brown rice, or chicken with brown rice.
2:30 p.m. Snack - 100% Greens & Whey Shake
5:30 p.m. Dinner will usually be left over from the extra food I make when I come home for lunch.
I then go to the gym at about 7:00 p.m., I workout for 45 mins of Cardio and in addition I do Calisthenic workouts three days a week. When I am done with my workout I usually have a shake. Throughout the entire day of work and with my meals I drink about three-four 16.9 fl oz Dasani waters. During my workout I drink 16.9 fl oz Dasani water. When I do Calisthenics and Cardio I usually have two 16.9 fl oz. When I cook I use olive oil, fresh ingredients, and fresh veggies. I eat only fish, chicken, ground turkey, and fresh produce.
So what do u think Buffedstuff, Maya, and Mastover? :eat:
Maya Tue, December 26th, 2006, 01:16 PM Looks like very little calories to be honest.
Have more protein at breakfast. 3 egg whites is not even 15 grams of proteins
"Real food" is better then shakes (with exception after workout).
Shakes are pre-digested protein. So your body doesnt have to "work" to digest it.
Your main meal (protein/carb) should be after your workout
Light meal (carb/protein) before workout
Try to eat 6 times a day
Do you like oatmeal? Its an excellent source of complex carbs
buffedstuff Tue, December 26th, 2006, 09:14 PM  make sure you are getting enough calories...The whole foods you are using look really good. :) If you want to add a little more of those complex carbs to your menu go right ahead some of my favorite ones are cream of wheat, farina, steel cut oats and your basic old everyday yam. Hey you are going to do just fine, I wish you well. ;)
Butterflyer Wed, December 27th, 2006, 09:17 AM Hi Rosie!:D
I can't advise on what to eat or anything like that, but I just want to say 20 pounds in 3 months is excellent progress. You don't need to go any faster than that. I think everyone's given you great advice here.:)
I'm using some Enzymedica products now too, and I think they're really great. :tucool: I'm finding that taking them 20 minutes before eating is working best-- apparently the capsules don't dissolve really fast.
I used to do Callanetics all the time too, that's good stuff.
Have you tried any weight training yet? :jumping: It's fun and very helpful.
