View Full Version : Whey protein during pregnancy? greengirl Mon, December 4th, 2006, 11:58 AM Anyone know if continuing my whey protein shake is bad for my pregnancy? Bowza Mon, December 4th, 2006, 12:48 PM There was a thread about this a while ago: http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=31248 The general consensus from this thread seemed to be that whey protein is safe, but pregnant women might want to avoid brands with artificial sweeteners, and consider whether they might replace whey with more nutritionally valuable whole foods. TarSeal Thu, January 18th, 2007, 09:55 PM Yeah, I'd say just go all natural whole foods while your fetus is forming. No sense in experimenting. It would probably be no problem, but we know for certain regular foods work well with the unborn child. Dasa Thu, February 8th, 2007, 03:07 PM could someone help me- I'm in my 3rd month pregnancy and I would like to know if I can take any supplements- like Glutamine, BCAA?... since I'm pregnant and I stopped taking them I feel always sore, and my recovery time is very long. My Dr. didn't know. Please help... Thank so much, Dasa Bitenose Fri, February 9th, 2007, 01:13 AM These are natural occurring amino acids, it shouldn't be a problem. Though, I don't see why "recovery time" should be an issue during 2nd & 3rd trimester. You don't wanna stress/strain your body too much, do you? :) Congratulations and I wish you best of luck in your pregnancy and motherhood! Just don't want to affect the baby by taking some chemical stuff' that would influence the baby in some way, since there is very limited info about that... do you have any experience with taking suppl. while pregnant? thanks, Dasa Azaroth Fri, March 2nd, 2007, 02:18 AM Stay away from all artificial sweeteners, as has been said. A lot of them act as neurotoxins, which I don't think you want circulating in your blood stream during pregnancy. There are of course plenty of other reasons too. Definitely stay with whole foods, avoid chemicals. That's my advice. Bitenose Fri, March 2nd, 2007, 12:54 PM Thanks a lot! Cousin's wife (does that make her a cousin-in law??) is also taking protein powder and doing weights while pregnant.. Am also planning on starting a family in a few months.. Just going to remove all barriers and let it happen when it happens.. Giving her lots of natural foods along with protein powder (whey without artificial sweeteners) and lots of omega 3 fatty acids... The multivitamins that the doctors give you are pretty good, but considering 99% of all people dont get enough N-3 fatty acids among other nutrients, there is alot you can do to ensure your baby gets all it needs when its growing.. |
