View Full Version : Why am I bloated?
unionordeath Fri, November 10th, 2006, 09:29 PM 3 weeks into my initial cutting phase already, and the bloating hasn't really subsided. I'm confused. My sodium intake is significantly lower than it used to be. My sugar and starch intake is also much lower. Yet all day I feel like a whale, and instead of swimming in an ocean, the ocean's swimming inside me! Also, my weight scale isn't dropping by much considering the amount of exercise I'm doing and my caloric intake. 2100-2200 calories daily. Fasted cardio every morning. Weights 3x a week. I upped my cardio as of last Saturday. I don't know if this is related, but my digestive system doesn't seem to be appreciating my healthy choices.
unionordeath Fri, November 10th, 2006, 09:33 PM Oh, I forgot, here's exactly what I'm eating every day in the word document and it's macronutrient profile in the excel spreadsheet.
*EDIT* The spreadsheet won't upload, so I'll just leave this one up.
BreakingPoint Fri, November 10th, 2006, 10:15 PM At first glance, I can tell you the problem is carbs (nearly every meal). They retain water if you're not consuming enough of the water itself.

Strange, I drink TONS of water. At LEAST a gallon a day.

Bingo. I had to go back to remind myself you said "cutting". You're eating a starch every meal.
If the carbs are keeping you bloated (and lots of water doesn't reduce carb bloat), try moving your carbs to around you workouts only.
You don't HAVE to separate carbs/fats but if you want to lessen the bloat, that may help too.

Would moving carbs around increase my fatloss, or simply just reduce my bloat? And I'm not sure how I'd move them around for cardio only days
*EDIT* I've read a bunch of debated threads on here and on the BB forums regarding the fat/carb seperation vs calories-in-calories-out debacle. I have some more reading to do before I make up my mind.
tedpod Sat, November 11th, 2006, 12:02 PM depending on the type of cardio your doing....if its hiit i treat it the same as a weight day as far as nutrition goes...Low intensity...i go fasted and have protien /fat after....
id say if it liss do protien fat...then 2 hours later...protien carb...and then another protien carb meal....try and cut off thecarbs early your body can handle carbs much better early in the day...provided theres no evening workout that demands the use of carbs...
plus with cutting youll be carb cycling by default...

I think I'm going to just continue my balanced diet for a couple of more weeks. If I start seeing better results, I'll leave it. However, if the results are minimal I'll do the carb/fat seperation techniques. I've read controversial arguments from both sides, and feel that only I can be the judge what works best for me. So, I'll end up trying both methods, but I'll give this some time to work before I start changing things up.
Ezekiel Tue, November 21st, 2006, 11:57 AM I have this exact same bloat issue. It's beyond frusterating. I'll bloat by up to 5lbs sometimes for days and freak out and then, I'll drop 6. I can't stand it and have found nothing to combat it. I'd love to know what causes this as well. I mean, when I bloat, my belly pushes out like I am pregnant. I am 6'' and 158lbs, I should not look like that. Very odd.
