I've come across a lot of cutting advice that said to keep your sodium intake low. What is low? Fitday says I'm getting around 2700mg a day in my (roughly) 2000 calorie diet. The RDA for a 2000 calorie diet is (if I recall correctly) 2400, but I suspect that the RDAs are not necessarily perfect guidelines for cutting or for health in general. How much sodium do the rest of you take in each day? Or is this even that important? Thanks for your ideas.

What's your potassium intake look like? I personally wouldn't worry about it too much. It's more important to competitive bodybuilders that are trying to retain very little water weight.

My potassium has been around 4500mg/day but I've made some changes and it is going to settle in around 4200mg/day.

Now that you mention it, I can see where the places I've read that advice might have been geared to people in a very different situation than mine - thanks!

I wouldn't worry too much about your sodium intake as long as you aren't piling it on all your food and don't have a family history of high blood pressure. A bit too much sodium will make you hang on to more water which can be a problem if you are always looking at a scale. If you want to keep your scale weight consistent, try to keep your salt intake consistent. As previously mentioned, potassium should be looked at too.
