I weight train in the morning (6:30am) M-F for about 30-40mins. I do cardio after work (5pm) every other day. I've read some posts here that say you shouldn't do HIIT on lifting days. I enjoy doing HIIT and usually do that for the cardio. Why should i not do it on lifting days?
I'm 6'4 195lbs, 30years old, and trying to gain lean mass without having to put on excess fat. I eat clean 4-5x a day totally roughly 2800-3100 cals per day.

You don't do it on lifting days because if you do your lifting right, you shouldn't have energy for HIIT.
If you do your HIIT right, you shouldn't have energy for weightlifting.
When I did HIIT, I usually had trouble walking home later. When I lift, the last thing I can do is HIIT. What is your training intensity like?
I would say don't bother doing both on one day even though you have some 10 hours between sessions. Do some LISS if you want, or take the time off. If you want to burn more calories, just eat less.

So it seems like its just a matter of energy levels.
I definetly couldn't do HIIT right after lifting...that would be insane.
However, 10 hours between lifting and doing cardio seems like ample time to recover, espically if carbs are consumed in the interm. I don't do that on leg days though.
Its not so much as a calories in vs out for me regarding the cardio. I just like doing cardio at a high intensity.
