With cottage cheese being such a great bedtime snack, are there any alternatives? My wife is diabetic, and it has been a great "bedtime snack" for her, but she's getting burned out on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Animal protein or you could buy a caseinate protein powder as an alternative

Just take a spoonful of the cottage cheese, take a swig of juice and swallow. The juice kills the taste.

Hi there,
I know that some will disagree but I have non fat plain homemade yogurt at night instead of cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is very expensive here in South Africa and I can make three liters of yogurt very cheaply indeed and I do so each week. I usually stir in some natty pnut butter and maybe a scoop of whey but not always. That with a small apple at night is staple for me. :drool:

My favourite choice before bed is;
200 mls low fat soy milk
1 scoop of my Musashi 92 (low carb protein powder)
Either half a frozen banana or 3 frozen strawberries
1 teaspoon of pysillium husks
High protein, low fat, heaps of fibre.
Throw all ingredients into a blender for a minute and enjoy.....mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Another alternative to yukky cottage cheese is low fat riccota cheese.

I think the point of the late night cottage cheese for many is the slower digesting casein protein vs the whey protein. Yogurt and ricotta both are whey protein sources.
Nothing inherently wrong with having whey then, but you don't get the long lasting protein availability overnight than a casein gives.
I'd definitely add a fat if I was doing yogurt or ricotta if my goal was slow digestion.
While I eat cottage cheese just fine normally, I prefer to make it a sweet treat with splenda, vanilla, and cinnamon. I either add PB or some kind of healthy oil (flax, udo, olive). If the consistancy gets you, just blend it.
If you don't like CC, just eat some meat or eggs as has been suggested above, or even get some casein protein powder.
