HevyMetal Tue, October 17th, 2006, 03:48 PM At a Glycemic Index value of 52 they're not bad at all. 52 is listed as a low rating comparitively. Anything over 70 is considered high. 1 small serving (4oz.) ripe banana contains 26 grams of carb. And....105 calories, .60 of a gram of fat (trace),1.2 grams of protein, 1 mg of Sodium, 1.8 grams dietary fiber. Good source of Vitamin C, high in vitamin B6 and a good source of Potassium. Wash bananas before peeling because bacteria on the peel can be transferred to the fruit. Hort Tue, October 17th, 2006, 04:55 PM 1 small serving (4oz.) ripe banana contains 26 grams of carb. And....105 calories, That's the rub. When was the last time you had a 4oz banana? I was helping a guy at the gym who couldn't understand why he wasn't losing weight. He was eating three banana's a day. I asked how big they were and he weighed one: 16oz. So 48 oz of banana a day, 1200 calories and more than 350g carbs. Most bananas I see in the store are about 12oz or more. Just be aware. divided Tue, October 17th, 2006, 05:08 PM wow hort, i never thought to measure one. But one big banan a day isnt going to break my goals. Thanks for thekp guys!:tu: needachange Tue, October 17th, 2006, 05:20 PM Yeah I only eat a banana 2 or 3 times a week it was hard at first because I love them. I use to eat several a day because to me it's like candy. Now I eat a lot more berries, blueberries stuff like that. guava Tue, October 17th, 2006, 06:09 PM When was the last time you had a 4oz banana? Most bananas I see in the store are about 12oz or more. Just be aware. I have a 4 oz banana for breakfast every morning. I don't think I've ever seen a banana bigger than 8 oz. Are you sure? JeremyLikness Tue, October 17th, 2006, 06:48 PM I ate the largest sized bananas from the store, one a day, every day right down to 178 pounds and 6% body fat. The upside is quality carbs, quality nutrients, great source of potassium, etc. If the downside is calories, that's a downside for ALL foods. All food has calories, so like anything else, it's not that the banana has too much or too little, you just have to work it into your plan. Even when I was as low as 1700 calories I could still stick bananas in their or some other form of fruit. I especially liked them post workout, but first thing in the morning on Kashi is tasty too. :eat: Jeremy Coachese Tue, October 17th, 2006, 07:02 PM I asked how big they were and he weighed one: 16oz. Hort Tue, October 17th, 2006, 08:00 PM Ever the curious sort I just went and weighed the one banana we have in the house at the moment. It's 10oz and I'd call it "on the large side". Should we all stand around and compare the size of our erm.... bananas? We risk Jeff measuring his grapefruits. I only know what the guy told me. steven Wed, October 18th, 2006, 04:08 AM in australia they are super expensive at the moment :( PAF Wed, October 18th, 2006, 05:57 AM 4.4oz! Have at least one everyday with breakfast/cereal. Usually two; another one just before sports. Sometimes I get ones that look double the size if I have to; when the small ones are not available. HevyMetal Wed, October 18th, 2006, 03:16 PM Hort...well, you could take an 8 oz. banana and cut it in half  :D Coachese Wed, October 18th, 2006, 03:25 PM Ever the curious sort I just went and weighed the one banana we have in the house at the moment. A medium banana (7" to 8" long) is about 4 oz - at least the edible portion is :tu: http://www.calorieking.com/foods/calories-in-fruits-fresh-banana-edible-portion_f-Y2lkPTM3MDY4JmJpZD0xJmZpZD03MzMyOSZlaWQ9OTIzNDQ0NT ImcG9zPTEmcGFyPSZrZXk9YmFuYW5h.html Hort Wed, October 18th, 2006, 11:15 PM Did you peel it first? :) Yes.
