Well, my weight loss goals have skidded to a stop - I'm now expecting a baby. Does anyone know if whey protein is safe during pregnancy?

Thanks....

Congratulations!

Most protein powders I know of contain artificial sweeteners, which you might want to be extra conscious of during pregnancy.

Why would you like to continue using protein powders?

When you're pregnant, it's best to think about creating the environment that will best support your baby, and will optimize your body to be as strong and vibrant as possible throughout the pregnancy and delivery.

Specifically, during pregnancy, most women should increase their consumption of foods containing plenty of iron, folate, calcium, and Vitamin D.

Protein powders probably won't hurt you, but your doctor would be the best to advise you about whether they are providing some kind of benefit to you that you'd rather not give up.

Congrats, I second Guava that you probably want an opinion from your doctor.

But whey's a natural ingredient in many dairy products...so IMHO its more a question of artificial sweeteners being acceptable or not.

Congrats!

ON Natural whey doesn't use artificial sweeteners, or you could order from one of the custom "mix your own" places and pick your own sweetener. There are at least a couple out there.

Yes, it is safe. And not a bad idea either as protein is extremely important during this time.

(I'm pregnant right now too. :) )

Congratulations!

I've seen this questions asked on many manufacturers' websites and they all claim it's safe as long as you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. Of course it's probably something to discuss with your doctor.

I would think the immunity boosting / LDL lowering properties of whey would make it a good choice. There are non-flavoured whey concentrates that you can buy.

ON Whey has stevia... About as 'natural' as you can get, but it's there.
