Okay, I started changing my life back in August. I was diagnosed diabetic a while back and started to get things under control by cutting my carbs WAAAY back (which brought my sugar down) and I've been trying to add healthy carbs back slowly...almost experimentally to see how one thing or another affects me. Here's where I am right now:

Breakfast:
1 large egg and 2 large egg whites
2 oz lean ham
1/2 oz cheddar cheese
(Scramble these things together using non-stick spray and top with 2 tbsp of mild picante sauce)
1/2 cup of oatmeal prepared with 1 cup of 1% milk, 3 packets of Splenda and a dash or two of cinnamon
2.5 oz of whole milk and 1.5 oz of 1% milk mixed into about 15 oz of coffee with 4 packets of Splenda (I started out with nothing but half-and-half in my mllk and have been slowly weaning myself off it -- all at once would have been too much!)

Mid-morning
Usually an Atkins Advantage bar.

Lunch
4 oz extra lean hamburger patty
1 oz 2% milk american cheese
1 low-carb tortilla
About 2 cups of steamed green summer squash and green beans
Salad with about 2 cups of lettuce and some tomato, cucumber, green and red bell pepper added in (usually not enough to count)
2 Tbsp of Hidden Valley Ranch prepared with 1% milk and regular mayo
1/2 cup black beans

Mid-afternoon
4 oz boneless skinless chicken breast
1/4 cup black beans
1 Tbsp mild picante sauce
1 whole wheat low-carb tortilla

This is what I've had so far, sans the Advantage Bar, for 1714 calories, 565 protien (35%), 482 carb (30%) and 555 fat (35%).

Dinner
4 oz lean steak
About 2 cups of steamed brocolli and cauliflower
Salad (same as above)
2 Tbsp of Hidden Valley Ranch prepared with 1% milk and regular mayo

I drink about a gallon of water a day.

In terms of exercise, I do about 30 minutes of LISS (70% of Estimated MHR) 5 mornings a week in a fasted state and I do a whole body lifting workout twice a week based on BFFM's phase one. I'm not at all strong compared to some of you here, but I am making progress. In fact, I may need to join a gym because the lilttle bit we have in our apartment building won't cut it in the very near term.

Thoughts?

By the way, my blood sugar is about 150 fasting in the morning and goes down to the low 100's about 2 hours after meals. I weigh 344.4 and started around 361 lbs back in early August.

Hey there, I was under the impression that people with type 2 diabetes shouldn't cut carbohydrates out completely, but rather, replace them with low GI carbohydrates. I'm not sure, I thought that carbohydrates were supposed to be *limited*, however, I found this interesting article in The Australian, Low Fat Vegan Diets Best for Diabetics (http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20086017-23290,00.html)

Not that I am suggesting that you go on a vegan diet :) just that it was interesting that they noted that there was no restriction placed on portion size or carbohydrate intake (contrary to most diabetics diets?), and yet the vegan group showed the greatest improvement in Blood Sugar levels, kidney function, cholesterol, and weight loss.

Anyway, my point is that I would suggest a little variation with the tortillas, such as grainy bread, or basmati or brown rice- the interesting article from The Australian just adds an interesting dimension!
