View Full Version : Question about Powertec power rack
cubs Thu, April 1st, 2004, 09:05 PM Help!!! Okay, Just got the Powertec power rack delivered to my house. I'm psyched!! Ripped open the three boxes and went straight to work. Immediately I got stuck -- to build the foundation (base) of the rack, the bolts that came with it seemed to be way too long for the nylon nuts. I've tightened it as much as I could, and still got abut a quarter inch space left...am I missing something here? Don't tell me I gotta cut the bolt... I've read others' review of the machine here and had seen no mention of this problem. Any help would be greatly apprciated!!
corbint Thu, April 1st, 2004, 11:11 PM to the best of my knowledge, ALL the bolts that came with my power rack were the same. just make sure the bolt HEAD is on the inside of the cage, and the extra threading is on the outside. then it shouldnt be an issue and wont snag your feet as you are doing double dutch jump triple pump squats in your new squat rack!
cubs Thu, April 1st, 2004, 11:29 PM Thanks for the reply Corbint! Unfortunately, after I tried inserting the bolt with the head facing inside, still the same thing. I think I got extra long bolts or something. Will have to call Powertec customer service tomorrow. Darn, I was really pumped to get this thing set up tonight.

I know I almost did, this will add another 1/4" or so.
Jimbo Sat, July 17th, 2004, 03:59 PM Bumping this thread, b/c I'm having the same exact problem that Cubs is having. The bolts are too long. I'm using the metal plates, and there's still too much slack. Can anyone help?
corbint Sat, July 17th, 2004, 04:04 PM can you take a pic?
naturalofcourse Sat, July 17th, 2004, 04:12 PM This is the first I've heard of this problem. Are you using the washers on the head, and the nut, along with the plates?
Jimbo Sat, July 17th, 2004, 04:23 PM Thanks much for responding. Powertec's service is only open M-F.
Yes, I'm using the washers both at the head and nut, and using the plates as well.
If I put on an additional 3 washers, there's no gap and things are tight. Do think that some of the washers are "extra", or will I need those washers for other parts?
Fourteener Sat, July 17th, 2004, 04:36 PM The proper bolts are .5 x 3.5" in length.
There ARE other bolts involved, but most of the others concern the lat system on the P-PRS unit.
Not very helpful I know...

Good idea.
I guess I shouldn't say that the bolts are too long - the real problem is that this is as far as the nut will go. There's a plastic 'stop' inside the nut. It's hard to tell from the pic, but there are washers are in place. It doesn't matter if I put the bolt head on the inside or outside of the cage.
Thanks for any advice!
Fourteener Sat, July 17th, 2004, 05:54 PM That piece of nylon is not a stop. The nut is called a "Ny-Lock" nut. The nylon is meant to make the nut stay tight. Just crank down on it and it will tighten up just fine. When you are done the bolt will either be flush with the nut, or you will have a little bit sticking out.

I think you'll be pleased with your purchase! It seems like very high quality materials and welding. In my case, the quality of the mind putting it together left a little to be desired.
Thanks to everyone for your help. Fourteener, that little bit of knowledge was all it took.
Fourteener Sun, July 18th, 2004, 01:02 PM Glad to hear you got it together! You will love it. A solid, well built apparatus for home or gym.
