It seems that before I was taking this type of BC pill I lost bodyfat easier.

Does anyone know if this hormone somehow slows the fat loss process down? I guess it makes your body have more androgen production. That's all I know.

I will keep trucking along but this is very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!

I watch what I eat, log my workouts and only very minimal fat loss....initially lost 3 # or so 2-3 wks ago and then nothing!!!

I think they do make it a little harder, but it's not an impossible obstacle. It's been a long time since I was on those, but I do remember I gained weight a little easier. Anything that affects your hormones would probably affect your body's process of dealing with food. Sometimes different versions of BC pills that are supposed to be the same seem to have different effects, and different people react differently too.

I don't think you're imagining it, and I have to say good for you for not letting it get to you! It just requires adjustment, and if you haven't been taking it for long, it might just be a temporary change while your body adjusts to the pill.

I tried to look up information on progesterone and found some sources saying that it would cause weight gain and others saying that it would cause weight loss. Go figure. I agree with Butterflyer that it could very well be a temporary adjustment.

I've been on it about 6 months or so and it messed with me....new acne problems also! The good thing is I no longer get migraines like I did with the combination pill. I just am going to have to kick it harder in the gym.....which is more effort but it will be good for me in the long run. It is hard not to get discouraged......I have a supportive hubby who keeps me going, though! Thank God for him.:claphigh:

Not that I want to sound like I'm scaremongering, but I found the mini-pill to be a fairly ineffective method of BC- it failed for me, twice. Have you tried an implant, like Implanon? It's similar in that it's only one hormone, not two, but I've found much more reliable, I'm on my second now. I think there are still the same issues with weight gain, I've had it on the mini and 'normal' pill too though, so I tend to just assume it's going to happen! ;)

Also- worth bearing in mind that sometimes the tape measure shows more changes than the scales does. Just a thought, if you're feeling a little frustrated. :)

This may seem waaay too old-fashioned for everyone here... but when BC's first came out, when I was in my late teens... they were not as well dosed as they are today... but I suffered a lot of weight gain (I weighed between 110-112 at the time so a "lot of weight gain" for me was about 5 lbs.) I really freaked out as my figure was a huge part of my identity. So I went back to the diaphragm. It is a bit of a nuisance.. but no weight gain... (the weight I gained came off almost immediately after I got off the pill.) You can put the diaphragm in quite a bit in advance so you do not need to worry about interference with spontaneity. And if it is properly fitted, you never notice it... nor does your partner...

Also... has anyone checked out... are the BC pills really progesterone... or are they progestin... which used to be what was in BC's and is in most prescribed Hormone Replacement therapy (which is based on the same principle as BC's). It is progestin that seems to cause a lot of women trouble in all areas. All the studies that show that Hormone Replacement Therapy may increase the risk of breast cancer were using progestin, not progesterone.

That was an interesting point you raised, Justitia, so I had a quick look. Apparently according to here (http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/BHCV2/bhcArticles.nsf/pages/Contraception_mini_pill_Q&A?OpenDocument) it is only progesterone. Interestingly, the implant is progesterone only also, but the effacy rate is much higher. Sorry to push that barrow again. :)

My M.D. is very particular about what I do, since he does not want to raise my stroke risk, but I will ask him about the implant. Thanks for the info. I don't rely on only one form of BC, btw, so I should not end up preggers.

Thanks,
