My friend recently obtained his medicinal marijauna permit allowing him to obtain and smoke marijauna legally as treatment for his asthma. He is also interested in weight lifting. Will his smoking affect his performance much?
He keeps showing me this clip of Arnold (http://youtube.com/watch?v=s9T6fy-h6-A) when I try to tell him that it's not good to do so but I really don't know of a way to convince him. Any information on the detrimental effects of marijauna would be helpful.

I don't believe recreational drug discussion is permissible at this location.

As well, Arnold did that after a show, and it was mostly for "show", and your friend is not Arnold.

Do you still consider it recreational even though my friend was prescribed it by a doctor for his asthma? This question is totally unrelated to my first post regarding the bad effects of weed on body building. Thanks a lot.

It's not what I consider at all, it's what John deems acceptable at his location. At other boards I frequent, this type of discussion is not allowed.
Not sure what the actual rule is here, I was just stating it may not be a good idea. I have no advice/comments about the situation myself, as I don't get into those types of discussions prescription or not.

Anything smoked will put tar in your lungs. He'll have a tougher time with cardio thats for sure, and marijuana also messes up your skin (makes you look pale).

I won't even bother asking why he's using marijuana instead of regular inhalers but it'll definetley make working out harder. If he can use his medical marijuana and still work out regularly, all the more power to him. But of all the people I know who smoke and who claim they're "working out" have quit after a few weeks (if not within a week). What I've seen is that they simply get lazy or don't have interest in it after short period.

Marijuana, medicinal or not, has no place in the world of fitness.

Messed up lungs, laziness, binge eating due to munchies, elevation of estrogen levels, increased water retenion/bloating/etc., are not things I classify as being productive in fitness for better health/looks.

I'm no doctor, but as far as it helping asthma, I see that as hilarious because of the tons of tar one lays down on the lung tissue making it that harder to breathe and doing a lot of damage over time. It's actually pretty dumb to me!

I won't even bother asking why he's using marijuana instead of regular inhalers...

I think we can all pretty much guess the answer to this question, unfortunately.

What I've seen is that they simply get lazy or don't have interest in it after short period.

This is a big reason.

I personally have never smoked marijuana, though I think it should be legal. If some idiot wants to toke it up at home or something that's his own business.

But that idiot will also have to live with the consequences, whether he wants to admit them or not - marijuana certainly does zap your willpower and make you lackadaisical and lazy.

These are not good things to be battling when you're trying to get serious about working out.

If this guy is serious about working out, he needs to stop trying to be "cool" by getting some kind of ridiculous "medical" excuse to smoke, get a normal inhaler for his asthma like anybody else, and go for his objectives clean and sober.

He'll be much more likely to reach them with a clear mind, and a clear body.

Wow, smoking pot to help with asthma:confused: I don't know about the rest of you but that seems a little counter-productive to me. Now I have asthma and I used to smoke pot. I'll tell ya what, it didn't help me at all...wait, it did help, it helped destroy my life. I mean I could barely walk a few blocks without getting winded, I would binge eat (mainly junk food and pasta), became depressed, eventually I became anti-social, almost lost my spouse. . . the list goes on bro. Your buddy needs to look at getting off the pot and onto an inhaler if he is looking at getting into bodybuilding or general fitness in general.

marijuana could be used for end stage cancer patients. It has no place in any treatment for asthma.your friend is fooling you
