Hey all, I was wondering if it is wise to include olive oil into your diet if you are attempting to get lean and cut up? I like to put a teaspoon or two into my salads with some vinegar and garlic powder, but thats it. I DONT use olive oil with any of my other foods. I have about 2 to 3 salads a week.

I was wondering if this is OK or if I should just do without it totally if I want to cut up.

Thanks

Should I eliminate olive oil?

No. There are some good fats in there. Don't fear the healthy fats, just account for them. They are called Essential Fatty Acids for a reason :)

I'm running at about 45% fat right now for a brief period of time along with high proteins and lower but not too low carbs. I'm leaning out.

I actually drink a tbs of olive oil out of one of those measuring shot glasses occasionally to up my fat intake :)

You can cut with higher fats, you can cut with lower fats. People fear fats when some of them are necessary.

If you even TRY to eliminate Olive Oyl, that Popeye guy will belt you with those huge forearms... knock you into a hamburger next Tuesday.

Wait... oh... never mind.

Think of it this way....not eating fats will make you fatter. Your body needs fats to survive or it will store it from other foods to use later. By feeding your body a daily supply of healthy fats (like olive oil), your body can let go of existing fat stores since it gets a enough from your daily food intake.

Hello,

I'm from Spain, the largest producer of olive oil in the world. You may think it's Italy, but that's because they buy lots of oil here and sell it elsewhere. Our producers are not too smart. Olive oil must be present in any healthy diet. Just don't fry it. Ask any doctor. That's all we ever used to dress our salads: olive oil, vinegar, some salt.

If you ever go to the region of Andalucia (an tha loo SEE ah) you will see nothing but fields of olive trees as far as your eyes can see, and after the next hill, nothing but fields of olive trees... and so on... It has been like that for centuries and yet the people from that area are known to be rather slim. It's a very hot area. I guess it all depends on your calorie input/output ratio.

Regards,
Pedro.
