View Full Version : What not to do after heavy deadlifts
zenpharaohs Sun, July 30th, 2006, 04:33 PM Today I went out to split some of our rounds to dry out for the winter. The stuff turned out to be a lot greener than I expected, and so it ended up being one of those sledge and wedge disasters. Took me ten minutes to get through one split with a 16 pound sledge and a real sharp wedge.
Anyway about two thirds of the way through I had to change to left handed because of some decent soreness in the lower back. Then I remembered the SLDLs and rows I did a couple days ago. I guess I'll have to figure out where to do wood splitting more carefully.

I "Miss" those days. We switched to gas just in time for the price to go up.

Well Kenny called for the single stiff legged dumbell deadlifts on Monday, which was sort of surprising, and today? I am looking at hydraulic log splitters on the internet...

Yes. Oddly enough my old trainer Andre' knew about people that split wood; and had a couple exercises for that. One of them was seated cable rows with twist.
This time though, I'm stronger and better at splitting than last year, but we just have some ash that is really stringy. So the 16# sledge does eventually split it, but it's hard work.

Oh yeah that would be just ducky.
Happily, my current trainer doesn't seem to be into those. I haven't done them for a long time.
I don't have a way of doing those at home, either, so don't get any ideas for the next "interactive workout".

zenpharaohs ,..
You mentioned Ash,...I'm not sure where you live, and I'm sure if your familiar with it, you know better than to burn too much of it, but have you ever split Osage?,..Sometime when your feeling froggy, and want to test your metal on wood,..Give a go at a good sized log of faily green Bodock. It will fight back I tell ya!,..:neener:
I build primitive bows when I get time, and Osage is my preferred material for this,..It's about the toughest, most ornory stuff you will ever lay a blade to,...I love it. It will tyurn your hands, cloths, and if your using something on it that makes dust,..Your boogers yellow,...:tu:
Chasing rings on a Bow horse with a draw knife will work your lower back for sure,...It's good cardio, without a doubt,...
I feel for ya man,..I have been there many a time,...Probably why my back is in the rediculous shape it's in,...I have the worst time keeping from injuring it now days,...
Anyway,..Good luck with the splitting,a nd the Deads,..

Don't live where there is much Osage, I am familiar with it, I don't burn it, and I've split it.
But I'm not going out of my way to go split it, if you get my meaning.
