View Full Version : Post workout fatigue and ill effects...
Specialbear Thu, July 27th, 2006, 09:10 PM Hey all... i have been cutting for a while using a Westside routine. My routine involves squats/deadlifts/box squats/bench and speed work 4x a week (tues, thrus, fri, sun)
I usually take 2 caffeine pills and a 25 mg Ephedrine PWO. My sessions go pretty well as i go balls to the wall.
After workout, i take 40-50 g whey and carbs in the form of oatmeal/yams and some BCAA's
Since im cutting i dont inhale a lot of food and maybe thats my problem since this lifting type is very intensive.
Any ideas? thanks all?
Some stats..... 10% bf.... 190 lbs, 5 foot 9, 20 years old Male
my lifts
bench 285
deadlift 405
squat 355

You're really close to me in lifts and body weight. Except I'm more like 20% bf and 5' 7". I think either I might be leaner than 20% or you might not be at 10%. I'm scratching my head a little on that one.
That being said, what I really think: isn't Westside a program tough for cutting? Unless you got Richard Simmons instead of Louie.
Specialbear Thu, July 27th, 2006, 09:36 PM no im definitly 10% (not a vanity post). My abs are visible and the calipers read about 9 so i went for 10 to be safe. I weighed 185 this morning. The lifts are also legit (no bullshit 1 inch ROM squat)
On another note, i FREAKING HATE when little skinny guys load out 6 plates and squat an inch and then look around the gym with a smug look. I spent a month on box squats to hit my max.

Quit messing with your adrenals.... It's quite likely they've rebelled and pretty much shut down on you. It's going to really suck to get them going again....ie you're gonna feel like crap for a long while. After 30, most men experience atrophy of the adrenals and it's made worse through through stimulants.
GRCRYSTYK Fri, July 28th, 2006, 11:51 AM Gordo,..
I saw a post the other day mentioning a very similar subject using caffeine, and what it did to the persons Adrenals. What's the scoop on that? I haven't run across a lot of info on the connection, or how you can mess up the Adrenal gland, but I too have much the same feelings as Specialbear. I'm pretty much on a cutting diet as well. I don't use Caffeine and Ephendrine, but the end result is still present in spades,...Fatigue like nobodies business. It's bad, real bad!
My stats are a bit different that you guys,..as I'm 5'8", 160 lbs,a nd 45 years old,..a bit longer in the tooth that you guys,...:D Still trying to make gains non the less,...

Gordo Fri, July 28th, 2006, 12:17 PM I'm no expert but I've done a little reading on adrenals simply because I was a mad coffee drinker, requiring more and more to function. Coupled with the fact I used to be on daily amounts of corticosteroids for allergies (bad idea).....had me looking around. Google adrenal fatigue or adrenal atrophy if you want to learn more.
Over stimulate and the body says fine, forget this and shuts down....the gland effectively atrophies in response to overstimulation since it isn't required to do it's job because a 3rd party is always providing the stimulation. In a nutshell. As a result...thyroid, liver etc. gets messed up. Test production goes down and cortisol release gets messed up.

quality sleep and low(er) stress are your best options, slowly weaning yourself off of stimulants will help get things back in order.

No. I think it's quite good for cutting.
Specialbear Fri, July 28th, 2006, 06:32 PM Westside is DEFINITLY tough for cutting. However, for maintaining muscless mass, its second to none. I havent gone down in any lift for 2 months (end of bulk)
As far as Caffeine/E, i take it 4x a week only, and 1 dosage only. I dont think its a problem, b/c a lot of ppl take it 3x a day!
Any other suggesstions? I was thinking of At Larges Vitaming thingy. Do they give free samples? I cant waste 30 dollars without at least trying it first:)

Westside is brilliant for cutting if your diet is good. :)
At-Large's Multi is good. I've been using it for a while now. (I assume that's what you're talking about?)

I use to be a HUGE! Mt. Dew drinker,..Been off that for pushing two years now,..Cut all the caffiene I could for a long while as well,..but have let a small amount creep back in every now and then,...I would guess if caffiene can shut down the adrenals, then Mt. Dew would be a prime canidate for a leading cause. After almost two years however, I still feel like crap every day. At times I could just drop, and go to sleep,...I don't do that, nor do I take naps and such, but feel like it all the time,..It's a real challenge to motivate myself to get moving, and stay active. I do it, as I have more than enough that needs to be done to keep me busy all day every day,..Getting muself ramped for a workout is a tough one too,..I really have to push myself to get enough blood flowing, in order to create the intensity to lift hard. Most days it's almost a lost cause,...I have to mentally push through it,...
Any suggestions?

Carbs are an issue for me,..I'm diabetic. I have it well under control, but try not to go overboard on the carbs. I have to keep an eye on what type of carbs I eat,..I try to eat only complex carbs, and very little simple or processed carb type foods. Not over processed crap for me,..It's tough, but for the most part, I'm getting the job done. Still feel like crap however,..
I sure wish I could find the missing link,...I would love to feel like I have some energy.

Gordo,..Thanks,..I'm looking into the adrenal issue much further,..It's proving to be very interesting,...Too bad it's such a complex thing, and time consuming to repair,..Very difficult to see changes with something like this,...
