If one were bulking and consuming around 4000 calories a day, what would happen to all of the calories eaten previous to the lifting session? I know that many of them would be used to fuel the lifting session, but would some be used to help the growth and repair process?

For instance...If I hadn't lifted in a couple of days and started a bulk. I hit nearly 3000 calories by 5:00 pm. The 3000 calories eaten would help me through my workout, but they aren't being used to repair muscles from a previous workout. Would some of them be used for hypertrophy or not? Or...for growth, would the repair take place only from the subsequent calories eaten after the workout and into the next day? Some buddies and I are curious. Thanks,
