View Full Version : Internet meat...
Omaha Wed, July 19th, 2006, 12:41 AM I have been wondering about this for a while, but have yet to try it.
Why not have a couple pounds of chicken fillets and steak mailed to my house so I don't have to do the shopping? I kinda hate the weird looks I get when 85% of what is in my cart is dead animal.
The only thing that is holding me back is A) the price. And B) the Quality.
I was browsing Omaha Steaks’ website (picturesque I know...) and I think my parents have bought steaks from there before, but they aren't for living off of. I don't need a round top cold cut 18oz sirloin steak direct from farm raised all natural pastures in the middle of Wyoming.
But I defiantly don't want any Taco Bell meat though.
Has anyone here done this before? Any good places you know of?
Any help is appreciated.
jaydfwtx Wed, July 19th, 2006, 01:09 AM Screw the people who give you weird looks. :nope: I somehow doubt you will find a good deal unless you're buying like a side of beef (which I think is half a cow).
guava Wed, July 19th, 2006, 09:00 AM Boneless chicken breast fillets cost less than $3/lb when you buy them in the store. (Maybe even cheaper in the states; I don't know.) I have no idea what they charge online, but I'm pretty sure it would be at least triple that amount.
It's a big waste of money, in my opinion.
Lael_TG Wed, July 19th, 2006, 12:36 PM Omaha steaks are good quality- as I recall, they ship packed in dry ice to keep them fresh. They make a good gift for someone who you know that barbeques or cooks.
For yourself, fresher and comparable quality meat can be found at your supermarket or natural foods store.
Omaha steaks also won't stop bothering you if you order from them, so if you do, expect emails, letters and calls for about a year until they get the picture.

I agree with Lael_TG. Good stuff! I think Omaha Steaks also owns an online store called A La Zing (http://www.alazing.com/servlet/OnlineShopping?Dsp=300). GREAT customer service and the meals are pretty good too. Pre-prepared Gourmet type meals in a box. They usually have specials that are pretty reasonably priced.
I think it's a good choice. Saves you from running to the store and buying a ton of meat along with another half a ton of extra stuff you didn't expect to buy but looked good anyways. You know those window-shopping traps. :bang:
Kino Wed, July 19th, 2006, 01:44 PM I get their emails at least once a week. The shipping kills ya.

That's my favorite part! :D
I do my grocery shopping on Saturday for non meat products and Sunday is when they have all the meats on sale. I love heading to the register with pounds upon pounds of chicken, steak, and lean ground beef. I get funny looks.
Timbermiko Wed, July 19th, 2006, 04:43 PM I own a restaurant and I have just expanded into online sales.
My meat supplier also ships online...http://www.denversteaks.com/
http://www.andersonfamilysteaks.com/catalog/
As the above poster mentioned the shipping is what hurts a guy....
A lot of online stores build the shipping into the price of the product..or alot of the price is built in.
On my site I show acutal shipping and do not build...
A 25lb. parcel 2 day ups. is around $75.00-80.00. Moral of the story...if you must you will pay for it.

I know what you mean. It's the dry-ice and those really cool styrofoam coolers. I use 'em for holding ice & drinks when we go out for picnics or have a lot of company over. I figure I paid for them via the shipping cost, might as well use 'em till they break. :D
wite-owl Wed, July 19th, 2006, 08:46 PM You might want to see if you have a local butchershop. You might be surprised. I know I was when I found out that we have one here. I can get fantastic meat combo deals which are reasonably priced, fresh, and hormone free. (And no one will look at you funny when you walk out with just meat.) ;)
