According to the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/healthy_living/fitness/energy_protein.shtml) assuming that I'm 120 Kg and working out for an hour or two .. do I need 120 gm of protein? that means 450 of lean meat!!! :eek:

Just asking, I think there's something wrong :)

Actually, in the fitness or body building world, you often see it listed at 1 gram of protein per US pound, so that would say you need 264 g of protein (or a bit over 1000 calories) a day. Some say higher.

Is it necessary? No, but it helps maintain and build lean mass from most of the reading I've done. You can still make progress I'm sure with less.

Many do recommend per lb of bodyweight, but others base it on lean body weight; i.e. 200 lbs ripped person may take in 200 grams, the same as a 300 lb person who's got 100 lbs of fat on him.

I generally aim for about a gram/day but the main thing for me is to just make sure I'm getting good protein throughout the day, including first and last thing of the day.

I don't think there's anything wrong. 120 grams of protein sounds reasonable for you. Don't forget to count the protein in milk products, eggs, whole grains, and other foods. You shouldn't need to eat 450 grams of lean meat if you don't want to.
