View Full Version : Curious about shoulder measurements. Post yours.
wreck17 Fri, July 14th, 2006, 10:02 PM I know from time to time everyone posts bicep, chest, thigh size....I was wondering what the average is for length around shoulders. If anyone is interested, post the length or breadth around the shoulders. Exhale out and then take the measurement. I am interested to see the results. Thanks. :claphigh:
bradh Fri, July 14th, 2006, 10:05 PM Right around both? If so mine is about ~51inchs

Well dude, what's yours?
zenpharaohs Sat, July 15th, 2006, 12:30 AM It's a bit tricky with just the measuring tape, but I get 46.5" Kind of weird since my chest measurement seems more or less the same. Maybe I was measuring too high on the shoulders?
MannishBoy Sat, July 15th, 2006, 12:41 AM I think you measure the widest part, but even with a myotape it is hard to make sure there is no slack. Mine I think is 48", vs a 42" chest. I bet yours is bigger, Zen.
JoeSchmo Sat, July 15th, 2006, 12:46 AM I agree -- it is kinda hard to find the widest spot.
Mine is ~57 inches.
rtestes Sat, July 15th, 2006, 01:47 AM Darden mentions that the largest shoulder width he measured with giant calipers was 24" on Scott Wilson, a bodybuilder from the 1980s. He says only a handful of men in the world today have 2 foot wide shoulders. They measured a lot of people who went through the Nautilus facility.
My around number is about 51.5" but the across looked like about 20 (no giant calipers). The shoulders aren't a body part often measured.

If we go by the widest, then I get about 55 inches from averaging a couple tries. But the widest point seems pretty low to call it shoulders.
I don't know what it means to anyone other than my tailor, though. I have 42" hips which can haul a lot more iron around than my shoulders, chest and/or upper back, any way you measure them.
wreck17 Sat, July 15th, 2006, 03:43 AM 51inches for me.
HeavyGuy Sat, July 15th, 2006, 04:49 PM I only get a mere 47" :(.
Cheers,
Heavy
Pete5 Sun, July 16th, 2006, 06:13 PM 42 and 3/4".
