View Full Version : Bulk shopping for oats, cottage cheese?
hemburger Fri, July 14th, 2006, 06:50 PM Hello there,
Can you buy steel-cut oats and cottage cheese in bulk online? If so, where?
I don't have a car and wal-mart/costco are not commutable. Most of my groceries are done at Trader Joes.
Thanks for your replies.

For dairy or other though, perhaps you should look into a grocery delivery service. I can't really imagine cottage cheese "in bulk". It has a short shelf life.
Something like Schwan's (http://www.schwans.com/)
or

I buy 10-15 lbs at a time (of oats, not cottage cheese:lol: ). This would be the cheapest way to go. I think they're 99 cents a pound.
Hort Sat, July 15th, 2006, 12:38 PM Isn't Trader Joe's usually cheaper than Whole Foods though?

I don't really know. There aren't any Trader Joe's in Colorado. I'm not really familiar with Trader Joe's. Do they sell stuff by bulk? Either way, .99/lb is pretty reasonable.
Hort Sat, July 15th, 2006, 04:53 PM Generally Trader's sells many of their own brands or exclusive to them brands and they are usually very, very cheap.
hemburger Sat, July 15th, 2006, 05:09 PM Oh yeah. the whole foods is actually a 10 min walk from my place. I tend to think of whole foods as a premium store. i will check the oats out.

hemburger Sat, July 15th, 2006, 05:18 PM I agree that compared to most grocery outlets, Trader Joe's is much cheaper. I am not sure how it compares to wal-mart/costco's and their like.
I get Cabot's cottage cheese from Trader Joe's. It comes at $1.99/lb. I was looking for something cheaper than that. Incidentally, Wawa sells a 1lb tub for $1.49 but it has way more chemicals than the Trader Joe's stuff. For oats, I got steel-cut oats at TJ's for about $2/lb.

For most things, they are a little more expensive. But for bulk foods (grains and dried beans especially) they have really good prices, from what I've seen. I get my rolled and steel-cut oats there.
