You know....the claims made for weightloss, smoking, curing bad habits etc. etc.

All you need is to be hypnotized, they say, and your home free.

Anyone ever tried it? What were your results and were they permanent?

Yes it works...want proof? John has incorporated invisable text into the forums main page that acts like a subliminal message. Once your mind registers the message to "Never leave the confines of the JSF Forum"...you're helplessly trapped in a never ending thread search.

it does work. if you want to try it on yourself i put up a selfhypnosis tutorial on my website: http://jk0.org/mind/hypnosis/

you have to be consistent and keep at it, though.

My wife quit smoking "by accident" as a result of hypnosis over ten years ago. My wife LOVED smoking... she would even smoke in the shower in the morning. But I bugged her to quit, and one day she said "There's one of those mass hypnosis things over at the Holiday Inn today... I'll go." She had no intention of quitting... she was just humoring me. But she went, and it worked, and she's never smoked again. And that's the truth.

No, it's the biggest shit story of the ages.

The power of suggestion is all it is. Ever fall asleep but not totally? That half and half type of feeling. You can still freely think as if you were wide awake, but you think you are asleep?

You have to believe in the stuff for it to work. And any silly things they make you do, or tell you to remember stuff you just do it under the guise of sleep. But again, you aren't actually asleep, your in that half and half state. There is no magical connection or anything like that. What ever you remember or do, you already had the power or ability to do. Mind over matter type thing.

I talked to one of those amusement hypnotists after one of his acts. He said all he does is talk. All that deep sleep crap is for the audience. The people do it to themselves. And if you believe enough to go along with it, he can ask you to do just about anything.

I wouldn't go so far as to calling it bullshit. When you are under a state of deep hypnosis, you have the ability to tap directly into the subconscious mind (something you cannot normally do when fully awake), which believe it or not, has a lot of influence on how you live your daily life. I'm not defending the amusement hypnotist acts by any means, but when self hypnosis is used right, you can definitely make some positive changes in your life.

This is like saying placebos don't really work because it's all in the mind. It's meant to be all in the mind. A hypnotist helps you by guiding you into a suggestable state where you can more easily work on your thought processes, and then suggests new ways of thinking about things. It's your choice whether you want to follow those new thought patterns or not. But if you've learnt ways to motivate yourself to eat healthily, why would you choose not to follow it?

Stage hypnotism involves taking people that want to make fools of themselves and gives them an excuse and perhaps the courage to do so.

Some of the things I've used self hypnotism for:

Convinced myself that I enjoy tidying and cleaning
Broke my habit of sucking my thumb
Made myself less materialistic
Convinced myself to like certain foods, and dislike others
General motivator
Turned myself from a pessimist into an optimist

It works if you let it!

One of the problems I have with hypnosis is when it is described as a "sub-conscious" exercise.

I actually believe it is the other way around....the best form of hypnosis is the "Super-conscious"

I have seen examples where the subject is so Super-conscious in the moment of now that the suggestion supersedes every other thought in his mind. Which leaves him with no choice but to focus and visualize intently on the suggestion.

But it seems that this type of hypnosis may not be longterm.

I don't pretend to know anything about the subject. If I did I wouldn't have posted the thread.

JKO..I bookmarked your link. Gonna have a look at it tonight.
