I was just wondering if any of you ladies that lift ever have a terrible time with your routines the week before your menstrual cycle? This has been happening to me every month and I'm just now putting it all together..that's if I'm even correct about the situation. I wake up on the right page and get to the gym and before I even get started I feel fatigued ..and on top of this I'm wanting to eat the house, grocery store, or anything else that catches my eye. My lifting has been terrible and have a really hard time making it through my workout..this happens only one week out of the month it seems..make sense? or am I just a weirdo?

PMS... no honey you re not weird at all. you seem to be doing ok. Mine is awful, i usually feel like im dying ... and the day my period starts im not the only one who's miserable, i make sure everyone else is too... i get angry and cranky and emotional... i usually take that day off from work :p

i try and focus on the cardio , that makes me feel much better and takes the pain away ...gets the blood circulating in my legs as well.

I end up with real specific cravings for chocolate, the urge to kill someone, and a lot of joint pain/weakness, and tiredness.

I totally understand. I would suggest you make sure you are getting enough vitamins and water, and then just go with it.

I'm sure someone else has a better suggestion, but since I am PMSing right now, I'm in no mood to search. :D

It makes perfect sense! Happens to me too! I'm completely exhausted that week or week and a 1/2, and would eat the weight machines if I could...

I just do the best I can and tell myself to do some sort of workout..might not be what is scheduled, but it's better than no workout at all...:D

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I usually eat more around that time and my energy level drops.

I am dealing with some serious PMS right now. I am glad I am not alone. Today I ate a small Blizzard at Dairy Queen and I feel like I have ruined all my hard work from the last week. I didn't even feel like exercising either. Oh well, tomoorow is a new day. Maybe the cravings will be gone and I will have enough energy to run an extra mile on the treadmill.

I get huge carbohydrate cravings when I have PMS, so I purposely cut back on my proteins and fats to try and equalize it a little bit.

I don't usually get angry, but I certainly do get tired, unmotivated, and cranky.

A small blizzard can't ruin all your hard work. Think about all the people who eat them a few times a week.

my boobs feel like they are about to fall off because they are in so much pain a week before and during my period...so no chest routines for me. Also the lack of energy, but thats MOST TIMES solved with green tea in the mornings. :jumping:

If you had a regular size one, that's about 700 calories. So it's more like a day and a half of hard work. If you had the large one, then it's more like two days.

If you just ate it, then you can use it to fuel an HIIT session an hour or so later and actually end up with a calorie deficit.

Yeah, I just saw it myself. Lifting is soo hard the week before. I hate it. The weights are tons heavier.

As for food... no girl is going to argue pms cravings... Argh!

Are any of you on the pill, does that make it different? One week out of a month is playing chance when it comes to races and competitions and such. Would be nice to get low-times less often and to perform when it matters.

When the PMS hits, I notice that my strength drops a bit. I feel feverish and weak (not to mention far more depressed/anxious/etc). On top of the chocolate and other junk food cravings, I get strong urges to slam back glasses of orange juice (anyone have an idea why? Because I sure don't).

When my actual period hits, I can all but forget training. It's far too heavy for weights or even cardio to be comfortable at the same time, at least for the first two days.

My diet has been picking up for the better, though, and I think this has reduced the symptoms quite a bit. I've been making sure to get plenty of all of my vitamins (tracking through Fitday). For awhile, I was lagging a bit in my B's, Calcium, Magnesium, and Zinc. I've only recently discovered a GREAT source of iron (and protein, and fibre) in the form of TVP (textured vegetable protein) from Bulk Barn, here. Since making those changes, my mood has improved greatly. I barely knew I was getting my period until it started. Granted, it was still heavy and I felt like someone was trying to rip my ovaries out:rolleyes: , but I had virtually no PMS.

I just noticed this same thing happening to myself for the first time last week. I never really noticed it before until I stopped eating bad carbohydrates and started hitting the gym. I was getting pissed over little things such as my family keeping junk food in the house, because I felt out of control with my cravings. I just ate alot of dark chocolate one night....peanut butter, milk, and peaches.
