View Full Version : Deadlifts
StoneCold Sun, June 25th, 2006, 06:34 PM I've been getting into deadlifts (stiff-legged). Though, when should I do them? I have seperate days for legs and a seperate day for back.
I do chest/biceps one day, back/tris, then legs/shoulders. I obviously don't want to workout my legs and back on the same day again.
For you deadlifters, what do you do?
George Sun, June 25th, 2006, 06:46 PM Stiff-legged on leg day, conventional deads on back day. :tucool:

Well, you could always try separating back and leg days further apart and then doing your stiff-leg on leg day and your convential on back day.
MON: Leg/Shoulder
WED: Chest/Biceps
FRI: Back/Triceps

This is what I would do and, IMO, is the best way to train the squat, RDL or SLDL, and conventional deadlift in a single week on a split routine.
M@ Mon, June 26th, 2006, 10:22 AM Are you doing conventional deads as well or just SLDL?
Ditto on advice above: SLDL on leg day, Conventional on back...if you do 'em. If you don't, why not start?! :D
mrgrieves Mon, June 26th, 2006, 11:11 AM I don't mean to jump into a topic (well, I suppose I do), but in a full body routine, could you do deads with squats and rows in the same day? It just seems like deads target the quads and back so much that it might be too much to do squats and rows on the same day.

I wouldn't do heavy squats and deads on the same day. Much better to separate them by a rest day. Some people here have had trouble with going heavy on those two without a rest in between.

What if you are doing 3 sets of 10? Is that still too "heavy"?

Yes, you can. But for the average person, you should cut the volume in terms of sets. HIT for instance is a program of exercise that feels you only need one set per exercise. In that one set, you use as much weight as you can and go to momentary muscular failure while increasing your time under load.
But if you are going the route of 4-6 sets and doing 40 reps on your squats, no don't do them or many other heavy loads. Of course if you think 60 lb squats and 90 lb deadlifts are your limit, you might try 4 sets or so on same day. See it just depends might be a good answer. :tucool:

Whoo...doing squats and deads in the same workout completely kicked my ass. I didn't have the energy to do a good job on whichever of the two exercises I did 2nd.
I'm planning to do a full-body workout in my next training program and will be incorporating deads and squats, but on different days (i.e. total-body workout but different exercise combinations every other day or a three workout rotation.)
